Position Summary Reporting to the Agricultural Services Supervisor the Agricultural Services Labourer is a field position. This position, as part of the Agricultural Services team, is involved in vegetation control on County lands, Pest Control, Rental Equipment inspections and minor maintenance, field work required for the Agricultural Plastics Recycling Program, and field work required for the Fence Line Program. The Agricultural Services Laborer takes on all minor maintenance of ASB equipment both on and off season. Position Responsibilities Vegetation and Pesticide Management: Assist in the implementation of the annual Vegetation Management Program by providing weed and brush control through the application of herbicides and other control methods. Maintain current and up to date herbicide knowledge and application techniques. Maintain County spray equipment and assists in the inspections and maintenance of County ASB rental equipment. Provide assistance with the Pesticide Container Collection Program by maintaining the site. Provide assistance with the Agricultural Plastics Recycling program by maintaining the bins and transporting plastics to the recycling centre. Complete surveys and inspections under the Agricultural Pests Act as assigned. Assist Infrastructure with seeding and weed control for the County shoulder pull projects and with snow removal within hamlets as required. Assist Facility Maintenance staff as required. Complete required documentation for vegetation control and herbicide applications, ASB Rental Equipment Program inspections, and Vehicle Inspection Reports. Ensure all OH&S requirements are fulfilled for assigned duties. Parks and Recreation: During the off season the Agricultural Services Labourer will assist the Parks and Recreation Landscape Labourer with the following: Maintenance of Parks and Recreation equipment. Maintenance of campgrounds including fire pit relocation, gravelling sites, repairing and replacing picnic tables and washroom facilities, and other repairs as necessary. Assist with the cleaning, flooding, and maintenance/safety checks of rinks on County land. Assist with off season landscaping which includes leveling and topdressing of sports fields and cemeteries in fall, and assisting with grass cutting after seasonal staff have left. Working Environment: Outside work environment Potential of dealing with difficult people Flexible hours and/or overtime from time to time Lifting and physical effort Hazardous material us Minimum Qualifications Partial high school Valid Class 5 driver's license Completion of Defensive Driving Standard First Aid and level A CPR Mechanical aptitude. Experience with the application of herbicide One (1) year experience in operating ATV/UTV, tractors and light equipment Physically fit Preferred Qualifications Dog safety High school diploma Completion of ATV and UTV operations training Completion of Chainsaw Safety training Knowledge of herbicides and an agricultural background Two (2) years’ experience in a municipal agricultural setting The wage range is $20.98 to $22.85 per hour.
