Organizational Context Organizational Setting The post is located in the Accessible Books Consortium Secretariat of the Copyright Management Division, Copyright and Creative Industries Sector. The Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) is a public-private partnership led by WIPO and includes organizations that represent people with print disabilities such as the World Blind Union, organizations or libraries serving people with print disabilities, known as authorized entities, and authors, publishers and collective management organizations. ABC aims to increase the number of books worldwide in accessible formats - such as Braille, audio, e-books and large print - and to make them available to people who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled. The next few years will be intensive for ABC, with the massive scale-up and evolution of the ABC Global Book Service into the new "Global Solution for the Search and Delivery of Accessible Titles". Purpose Statement The main role of the Product Management Officer is to elicit and meet the business needs of the ABC Global Book Service’s “customers”, that is, authorized entities, other partners, and people who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled, known as “beneficiaries” by ensuring that ABC technical platforms and tools continue to be fit for customer purposes through the elaboration and recommendation of appropriate solutions. Additionally, the incumbent will assist the Head, ABC in the evolution of the ABC Global Book Service to the “Global Solution”. The incumbent will collaborate with other members of the ABC Secretariat, particularly the Library Sciences Expert, as well as the Information and Communication Technology Department (ICTD), Cloud Management Unit (CMU) and the Copyright IT Manager, CMD. Reporting Lines The Product Management Officer works under the supervision of the Head, ABC. 2. Duties and Responsibilities The incumbent will perform the following principal duties: a. Carry-out ongoing analyses of the needs of authorized entities, other partners and beneficiaries, with a view to the continuous improvement of ABC technical platforms and tools, prepare the corresponding business and functional specifications for the development of technical enhancements and new functions by the off-shore developers. b. Contribute to the strategic planning, development and implementation of the “Global Solution for the Search and Delivery of Accessible Titles”, which will link an extensive network of catalogues of accessible format works, including through the development and implementation of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). c. In cooperation with the relevant ICTD section, work with off-shore developers on prototyping, user testing and implementation of technical enhancements and new functions, including when and as required participating in teleconferences and meetings with the off-shore developers and ensuring that the technical tools are built as required. Manage and participate in the user acceptance testing of all new releases. d. Provide training via teleconference to authorized entities, other partners and beneficiaries when required, and prepare ABC user manuals. e. Assist with the expansion of the number of authorized entities, other partners and beneficiaries joining ABC, as well as promote the increased utilization of ABC systems. Prepare relevant communications to prospective and current authorized entities, other partners and beneficiaries. f. Supervise the integration of new collections of accessible format works in the ABC catalogue, and monitor the ongoing data-harvesting of the current collections of accessible format works. g. Contribute to the development of a monitoring framework to assess and track the performance of all components of ABC systems, including (i) overall metrics and utilization of ABC systems by authorized entities, other partners and beneficiaries; and (ii) the quality and availability of data in the ABC catalogue. h. Liaise with WIPO’s Cloud Management Unit for the migration to, and maintenance of, ABC technical platforms on the AWS Cloud. i. Perform other related duties as required. 3. Requirements Education Essential First-level university degree in business, marketing, information technology or related discipline. Desirable Certification in project management. Certification in business analysis. Experience Essential At least six years of professional experience in the public or private sector in business adoption of technologies including several of the following: application programming interfaces (APIs), other Web-based technologies, databases and file transfer protocols. Experience working within a multi-stakeholder environment. An advanced university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of experience. Desirable Experience in manual and automated software testing. Language Essential Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Desirable Knowledge of other UN languages, particularly French or Spanish. Job Related Competencies Essential Good understanding of computer systems design, testing and deployment within a large organization. Demonstrated ability to draft clear and coherent business specifications and conversely express technical concepts in non-technical terms. Demonstrated ability to deliver results. Excellent ability to synthesize and present information clearly and logically, both orally and in writing. Commitment and dedication to the humanitarian objectives of the Marrakesh Treaty and ABC, as well as sensitivity to disability related issues. Competent user of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and the ability to adapt quickly to new software. Desirable Knowledge and understanding of accessible format standards and the assistive technology used by people who are blind, visually impaired or are otherwise print-disabled. 4. Information Mobility: WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities, office or duty station of the Organization. Annual salary: Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment. Please note that this estimate is for information only. The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice.
