WSP is currently initiating a search for a Structures and Construction Services Intern for our Detroit, MI office. This opportunity is available for a college student in good standing working towards a Civil Engineering DEGREE within an accredited program. The candidate will gain experience in bridge design and construction projects under direct supervision of the firm's leading Structural Engineering and Construction Services professionals. Duties and Responsibilities: -Assist more experienced Engineers in broader Engineering activities -Perform basic Design calculation -Perform routine Engineering functions -Perform sketches and drawings -Assist with quantity and cost estimate -Read, understand, and interpret project plans and contract documents. Identify possible problems in contract documents and propose solutions or refer them to the Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager or Project Coordinator as appropriate. -Coordinates communication and exchange of information between the project manager, engineering team, management, contractors and vendors. Coordinate all internal and external communication relative to the project -Works closely with project administrators and project manager to prepare reports detailing project costs, progress, risks and opportunities for review by senior management. Minimum Qualifications: Current standing as a Rising Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate student actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering Undergraduate or Graduate program Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies Preferred Qualifications Experience with Microstation, and knowledge of reading construction plans.
