JOB OPPORTUNITY ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION – Professional/Managerial Posting Date: March 1, 2020 Closing Date: March 15, 2020 Position Title: Human Resources Generalist Pay Scale Group: PM 1 Department: Human Resources Salary Range: Hiring Zone: $58,650 - 72,852 Type of Appointment: Term (1 Year) Position Summary We are looking for a talented Human Resources Generalist to join our human resources team. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, you will be responsible for providing a range of human resources services, including benefit and pension administration, support for disability management, return to work and accommodations, WSIB, and wellness. This position also provides advice and guidance on a variety of general human resources enquiries regarding collective agreement interpretations, employment policies and procedures. The position maintains employment and organizational records, and produces reports, data and statistics. In addition, this position provides support to collective bargaining negotiations and the implementation of changes that come out of bargaining. This position will combine strong HR acumen and knowledge of business processes to participate in a variety of special projects, contributing to technology, systems, and service solutions which support HR strategic initiatives. Your responsibilities will include: Provides consultation and advice to managers, faculty administrators and staff on matters relating to benefits, pension, onboarding, Dayforce (HRIS), attendance management and health and wellness. Acts as liaison to Payroll. Maintains knowledge of best practices in human resources and related employment legislation including Employment Standards, the Human Rights Code, OHSA, ODA, WSIB Act, Labour Relations Act, and common law associated with hiring and dismissal. Responds to enquiries from staff regarding benefit plans coverage and claims by providing advice, investigating and resolving problems as necessary and referring unique situations to the Director for advice or ruling. Provides administrative support to the pension plan, ensure appropriate processes and forms are completed as appropriate (e.g., enrolment, changes, termination and retirement) and data is maintained appropriately. Coordinates the administration of sick leave, Short Term Disability and WSIB plans and safe and healthy return to work. Responsible for maintaining data for employees and jobs in the HRIS, maintaining information regarding seniority, attendances, absences, compensation and benefits. Produces various reports. Assists in the collection and analysis of data relating to various subjects and prepares reports and/or summaries. Maintains the Human Resources Website, working with the Director and Talent Management Specialist for specialized content updates. Support project implementation through activities such as staff collaboration, process documentation and the development of forms and reports. Liaises with a wide range of stakeholders. Identify and analyze options, make recommendations and support project implementation (HR System Modules, website, HR Hub, etc.) Required Qualifications Education University degree required, preferably in a related disciple (e.g., human resources, labour relations, business administration), or equivalent in education and experience CHRP designation is an asset Experience and Skills Minimum three (3) years progressively responsible and related human resources experience in a unionized environment Sound knowledge of human resources best practices and employment related legislation. Proven experience with HR databases, HR Information Systems, managing employee records, producing and analyzing human resources reports, project coordination and website management. Demonstrated experience with administering benefit and pension plans Experience with WSIB, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Case Management as well as sound knowledge of return to work principles and legislation Superior oral and written communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated proactive and effective client service orientation with a friendly and positive outlook Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, initiative and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment Proven ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities with tight deadlines. Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of equity, diversity and inclusion Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive issues with tact, diplomacy, professionalism and compassion
