Are you a motivated individual who enjoys learning new skills and who can work to time sensitive deadlines? The ideal candidate for this role would possess manual dexterity with the ability to demonstrate due care and attention when handling fragile/delicate museum objects. The nature of the role requires the successful candidate to work with limited supervision and ability to use their own initiative They will also be able to demonstrate excellent data entry skills and experience of the museum’s collection management system (CMS) would be highly desirable. The Word & Image Department (WID) provides access to its collections through the National Art Library reading rooms, the Print & Drawings Study Room and the Archive and Library Reading Room at Blythe House. The Service Assistant post is based in the Information Services section of the Word & Image Department. The Service Assistants work both behind the scenes and front of house across the study rooms and play an essential part in the delivery of the Department’s services to the public. This post holder will work predominantly in the Prints & Drawings Study Room, also providing retrieval services to the RIBA Architecture Study Room. Their main duties will be split between framing work and museum object retrieval to support these study rooms. The post is 21.75 hours per week, likely Tuesday – Thursday with occasional Saturdays due to service needs. The close date for all applications is 1 April 2020 at 5pm.
