Transportation & Logistics Manager – Performance Materials (located in Gurnee, IL) Summary: We are seeking a Transportation & Logistics Manager to lead continuous-improvement efforts for logistics in the Performance Materials business unit. You’ll have the opportunity to develop and implement process improvements and efficiencies. This role will be establishing processes to advance cost savings, accelerate performance, sustain strategic flexibility, inventory, use of resources and exceed customer expectations. This role will conduct research and analysis of freight costs & methods, shipping lanes & disturbing routes, establishing KPI’s, inventory, control and distribution of materials & products to meet our objectives. Manage relationships with third party warehouse facilities from contracts, rates, SOPs, daily operational issues and ongoing strategic initiatives. In addition, this role will assist in achieving corporate initiatives to standardize logistic information in a common TMS platform and have opportunities to lead cross business unit improvement projects. Responsibilities: Multiple site responsibility for Gurnee, IL and Englewood, OH. Partner with the business to understand how the various departments work together and to identify and approach service problems from the perspective of both the business and the customer Solve and resolve complex problems, persist through significant obstacles and data and deliver results regardless of the situation Research and analyze freight costs and classifications, delivery methods, and delivery schedules to drive improvements that minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction for both sites at Gurnee, IL and Englewood, OH. Working with internal business partner, leverage the scale of the total business to negotiate logistics services contracts and pricing agreements with providers in various transportation modes, including parcel, LTL, TL, Ocean and global forwarding and customs brokerage services to meet budgetary goals along with service metrics Develop and monitor key performance indicators and financial metrics, indicators and financial metrics, identify trends and analyze variances In conjunction with the business leaders, determine the most cost-effective shipping method(s) to meet customer needs Maintain freight information and analysis to ensure accurate invoicing, works with finance to resolve any freight bill issues. Coordinate with planning, manufacturing, and CSR's to ensure deadlines for shipping product. Coordinate logistics and shipping to and from multiple shipping points within the supply chain network Ensure outbound shipping compliance including keeping current with all DOT regulations and training. Set up all distribution routes/channels for all inbound and outbound freight Update performance reports monthly or as required to support business objectives Assist and drive the development of logistic improvement strategies with the operations group Participation and/or leading a cross-functional supply chain projects looking to drive improvement on space management, inventory strategy, work procedures, safety improvements, etc. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, or similar focus. 8-10 years minimum of transportation, logistic experience in a similar industry (preferably at a manufacturing site) including exposure to bulk truck, rail, and LTL transportation 5-7 minimum years minimum management & leadership experience required Key Attributes: Solid business acumen, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, solid analytical and quantitative skills, interpersonal effectiveness and project management skills Successful career history of continuous improvement and innovation skills Experience with regulatory requirements of DOT and Haz Mat is desired. Familiarity with ISO, cGMP, Kosher and Food Safety quality systems is beneficial Requires strong attention to detail and organizational skills Must be proficient at ERP computer software – familiarity with EPICOR and SAP is preferred.
