The University of Windsor’s Leddy Library invites applications for a Twelve (12)-month Limited-Term Academic Ancillary Staff Level I, Learning Specialist in the field of Academic Data and Statistical Consulting, commencing as early as May 1, 2020. This position is subject to final budgetary approval. Reporting to the Head of the Information Services Department, the Learning Specialist: Academic Data and Statistical Consulting works with librarians and the campus community to develop and deliver innovative and flexible teaching and learning programs to support students, faculty, and staff in the analysis of statistical data and in the use of statistical applications. This learning specialist is situated within the Academic Data Centre (ADC) in Leddy Library and collaborates with other members of the ADC including the Data Librarian and Geospatial & Data Analyst. Experience in a college or university, or comparable institutional setting is required. This team may also support the satellite Statistics Canada Research Data Centre, which will require a security clearance. This position entails significant one-to-one consulting/mentoring/teaching with respect to the choice, application, and interpretation of data analysis techniques as well as the incorporation of data into research, teaching and learning. This also includes teaching and promotion of data literacy through stand-alone instruction sessions and as part of formal curricula. The incumbent will help to support large-scale academic research projects with complex data needs, as well as participate in in-depth data analysis projects. A minimum Master’s level degree in mathematics and statistical sciences, or a quantitative science or social science field is required. The successful candidate must have extensive knowledge of multiple statistical software packages, such as SPSS, SAS, Stata, and R; this must include statistical programming skills. An understanding of and/or experience with government microdata is essential. Extensive experience with statistical methods and quantitative analysis would be an asset. The incumbent will also have a strong understanding of the processes related to data collection and research methodologies (survey design, sampling, and choosing inferential statistical techniques). The incumbent must have previous experience with conducting data reference interviews in a data services setting.
