Reporting to the Associate Director, Risk Services, the Global Travel Specialist/Analyst will facilitate development of, and then implement, campuswide policies, programs, and procedures associated with the safety of UC Santa Cruz students, faculty, staff, and related parties traveling domestically or abroad for study or university business. The selected candidate will be the campus subject matter expert on all matters related to travel safety and security, and will engage in outreach to promote, advise and train on health, safety and security overseas. The Global Travel Specialist/Analyst will also provide risk management guidance on a consultative basis for trips and programs abroad. The Global Travel Specialist/Analyst will work with campus units to implement the emergency response plan for their programs abroad and/or will coordinate actions with private service providers in collaboration with campus and UC Office of the President leadership in the event of health, safety or security crises abroad. Duties also include maintaining data and information about rapidly changing safety and security threats, travel, insurance programs and crises incidents involving the UC Santa Cruz community outside the United States. Risk Services is part of the UC Santa Cruz Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division and is one of five departments that comprise the Risk and Safety Services unit. Risk Services supports the campus by helping to identify risk exposures, recommending strategies to reduce or eliminate identified risks, and administering the campus's insurance programs to facilitate maximum recovery from accidental losses. Qualifications / Competencies Substantial travel risk management knowledge. Substantial experience implementing and coordinating crisis response services in relation to critical situations or incidents abroad. Substantial experience developing and implementing institutional travel risk management, planning information and training. Experience effectively coordinating and improving travel preparedness outcomes with various constituents, such as university or business institutions, police, international organizations, US State Department, US embassies and consulates. Experience with international security entities and/or travel security providers, especially in international incident response situations. Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, including skills to cultivate trust and build successful working relationships. Written and verbal communication skills to articulate essential emergency information in a timely manner, including public speaking to present information to diverse groups and an ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make recommendations verbally and in writing. Ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems, including the ability to conduct research and analyze information from multiple sources and to summarize findings into clear and concise written format using text, graphics, and tables. Professional acumen to handle sensitive or difficult situations with discretion, recognize and protect the confidentiality of highly sensitive or controversial information. Ability to work and interact effectively with people who have different skills, backgrounds and experiences. Excellent time management skills. Experience using various software programs (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, etc.) to accomplish assignments. Preferred Qualifications / Competencies Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Experience implementing and coordinating crisis response services in relation to critical situations or incidents abroad for a higher education institution. Experience developing and implementing institutional travel risk management, planning information and training for a higher education institution. Certifications: Professional certification preferred. Special Conditions of Employment Ability to pass a pre-employment background check. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
