SUMMARY Acts as primary interface between company’s internal departments, international offices, suppliers, and carriers / freight forwarders to ensure efficient and timely execution of all transportation and logistics activities, coordinates with suppliers to develop origin consolidations that maximize company’s freight savings opportunities and supports company’s performance goals and objectives, ensures international shipments are transacted in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible to meet company financial goals and objectives, monitors and reports on supplier compliance and effectiveness with regards to on-time shipping, document / invoice accuracy, container loading / utilization, etc., maintains and establishes key metrics to measure performance in support of company’s goals and objectives for the company’s domestic and international shipping activities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Develops, implements, and manages inbound and outbound global transportation programs Annually reviews pricing tariffs with carriers; initiate bids and manages negotiations for freight contracts and tariffs Manages the process of review, audit, and approval of inbound and outbound freight invoices for payment Tracks supplier shipping activities in support of Procurement Dept. staff requirements and verify that daily plans, shipping schedules, and transportation requirements are being met Evaluates all international customer outbound shipments, ensuring that all purchase order requirements in regards to shipping are met and executed in a timely manner Ensures compliance with all Vendor and Routing Guide procedures for our domestic and international customers, especially in the retail segment Nurtures a good working relationship with all international freight forwarders in order to get the most cost efficient ocean and air rates Manages all documentation for international shipments including packing slips, commercial invoices, BOL’s, Airway Bills, ASN’s, Delivery Orders, Cargo Clearance Documentation Executes Standard Operating Procedures for international and domestic shipping activities by overseeing sign-off and implementation by both internal and external stakeholders Conducts RFQ’s on a regular basis and ensures all Importer/Exporter of record filing requirements are met and accessible for review purposes. Establishes operational procedures for verification of incoming and outgoing shipments Assures that shipments are prepared in accordance with laws and regulations of domestic and international transportation authorities Works well within set budgets and implements controls necessary to keep expenditures within budgetary limitations Designs, implements, manages, and monitors logistic reporting systems to meet and exceed requirements Provides creative leadership from knowledge of industry best practices and most current developments in logistics management Participates in planning and policy development issues Provides regular reporting to senior management on logistics issues May oversee creation of procedures and communication material that document logistic practices Participates in establishing short and long-term logistics objectives consistent with organizational strategy SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, International Supply Chain/Traffic Operations or Logistics Management Preferred IATA certification preferred Thorough understanding of Harmonized Tariff Code table and usage Minimum of 7 years experience in domestic and global logistics (emphasis on Asia and Europe) Knowledge and skill with import/export regulations, documentation, and international freight compliance such as customs regulations, documentation requirements and FDA clearance procedures Strong computer skills especially using ERP Systems, Excel, Outlook and Transportation Software Excellent communicator. Outstanding oral and written skills. Bi-lingual a plus LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
