POSITION SUMMARY: The York School is looking for a JK/SK Flex and Visual Arts Teacher. The successful candidate will be an experienced teacher with knowledge of inquiry-based, play-based, student centred learning and possess the ability to work as part of a collaborative Early Learner team. The responsibilities include co-constructing literacy, numeracy and units of inquiry lessons, unit plans and long range plans and teach visual arts within the IB PYP framework and philosophy. The successful candidate will be a collaborative contributor to the JK/SK programme and to the Junior School. An expectation to attend meetings, make a commitment to participate in co-curricular activities, and take on homeroom, supervision and other duties related to fulfilling the position is essential. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: JK/SK Flex and Visual Arts teacher Teach within the IB PYP (International Baccalaureate) framework and philosophy Work closely with colleagues and participate in collaborative planning, committees and meetings Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. Incorporate appropriate technology and media in lesson planning. Work with JK / SK colleagues to develop and implement collaborative formative, summative and ongoing assessment of students, including report cards and progress reports. Monitor and address the behaviour and emotional needs of students and provide follow-up in collaboration with JK / SK Homeroom teachers and parents. Be available to students and parents outside of class time. Participate in co-curricular activities Supervision duties as well as other duties related to the position Monitor compliance with School policy and dress code regulations. Cover as an “on-call” teacher for absent colleagues when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES: Ontario Teaching Certificate Kindergarten or Early Childhood Qualifications At least 3 years relevant teaching experience Training and experience in teaching the IB (International Baccalaureate) PYP (Primary Years Programme) required Familiarity with Atlas Rubicon preferred Strong communication skills to best collaborate in a team environment Enthusiastic, productive and positive nature Ability to interact with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion Ability to work independently and on various tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment Strong organizational and time management skills A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a “How can I help?” attitude Proficiency in Google Applications considered an asset Previous Independent School experience considered an asset WHY THE YORK SCHOOL?
