Job Purpose Statement The Carlstar Group is the industry leader of specialty tires and wheels the agriculture, construction, lawn and garden, ATV and UTV, high speed trailer, aftermarket automotive wheels and flat free/manual markets. We are currently seeking a highly qualified R&D engineer with experience in tire and vehicle dynamics. This position will be responsible for providing hands on tire and vehicle dynamic understanding in order to optimize tire performance. The R&D engineer will focus on ATV and UTV projects from start to finish including new tire design, tire specification development and vehicle testing. In this role, they will also be responsible for developing new products to bring to market. This position reports to the R&D Manager- Power Sports. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Lead and coordinate new products design and development projects. Data acquisition and analysis of vehicle/tire testing. Design and execute engineering experiments to create new solutions for internal and external customers’ requirements. Correlate experimental data/design parameters with product performance. Use CAD to design products, patterns, profiles and tooling. Interact with customers to understand product application and performance requirements. Ability to travel 10% to perform assignments. This includes domestic and international travel. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: BS in engineering, chemistry or physics required, advanced degree preferred Experience with vehicle and tire dynamics essential. Experience with Tire Design/Process is preferred. Advanced skills in software application such as Solidworks, AutoCAD or other CAD programs, required. Simulation experience is preferred. Personal Skills: Strong analytical, creativity and problem solving skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Provide oral and written communication to all levels of employees within the company, external suppliers, and customers. Understand cost effect on design decisions. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Energetic and self-starter.
