To view the MOS codes please click on link below and click on the appropriate occupational category. http://www.hr.sao.state.tx.us/Compensation/JobDescriptions.aspx General Description Performs audit work in the Internal Audit Division to include audits of financial, administrative and technical functions, and of departmental grants, contracts and agreements to determine compliance with Department policies, procedures, directives and relevant laws. Work involves planning, organizing and conducting audits in compliance with professional auditing standards; maintaining, reviewing and preparing confidential information and administering other management-related programs. Work requires contact with departmental executives, managers and private entities. Employees at this level perform work under supervision and in some cases work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Duties The essential duties for this job include: Conducts interviews with departmental staff to obtain information. Conducts or assists in internal control studies and risk assessments. Develops audit programs to include objectives and audit procedures. Keeps Internal Audit Division team members, Engagement Lead, and Audit Section Manager informed of progress of audits through team meetings, briefings, status reports and presentations. Performs research and analysis on draft policies, procedures, manuals and project documents. Performs responsible administrative work. Reviews overall management operations and internal controls for accuracy, economy, efficiency and compliance to department policies, procedures and relevant local, state and federal laws. Visits area and field offices to verify corrective action has been accomplished. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Competencies The required competencies for this job include: Communicate effectively Shows initiative and action beyond what is required to improve products or services; is self-starting and completes assignments independently without constant supervision Protects sensitive and confidential information Giving attention to detail and reviewing information to identify any errors and problems; ensuring consistency and clarity of information Maintaining effective working relationships with others The use of basic mathematical fundamentals Meeting deadlines Prioritizing and organizing work assignments Preparing and maintaining records, files and reports Developing and giving presentations Education This job requires the following: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration Work Experience This job requires the following: 4 years in Accounting or Auditing-related activities Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent No Supervisory Experience Required Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Current certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and/or Certified Management accountant (CMA) may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
