techUK Overview techUK is a national membership organisation dedicated to helping its members stay prepared in a changing world. Collectively they employ approximately 700,000 people, about half of all tech sector jobs in the UK. These companies range from leading FTSE 100 companies to new innovative start-ups. The majority of our members are small and medium-sized businesses. techUK has established itself as the voice of the tech industry in UK and is the ‘go-to’ organisation for industry players, government, regulators and influencers and other stakeholders in the digital economy. In 2020 we will undertake a major relaunch and rebranding exercise to position ourselves and our members as the essential organisation for the UK to become the digital nation of significance and a globally successful tech enabled economy. We want to own the story and set the pace of UK’s transformation to a high skill value country in the next decade. Role Purpose The Director of Brand, Marketing & Communications will play a critical role in delivering the next phase of the techUK vision, deepening its regional footprint and elevating its profile and brand as the most authoritative voice of the UK’s technology community. The successful candidate will continue to position techUK as a key influencer of public policy, a vital advocate for the techUK community via both its programmes and activities, and a data-led centre of insight, thought leadership and education. They will also play an essential role in the long-term effectiveness of techUK, supporting the organisation’s ability to leverage its brand, knowledge and skills to attract new members and generate support from the existing membership. They will play a leading role along with the CEO, deputy CEO and other SMT members as we transform the operations of techUK and the way we work so that every programme and every employee becomes communications and marketing led, using the best online tools to tell the compelling techUK story. They will drive the marketing and events team’s use of new methods and technology to ensure targeted and effective community building and online interaction with our members of every size, ensuring that techUK value is delivered directly to and recognised by senior people across each member company. This position will report directly to techUK’s CEO, have a place on the organisation’s senior management team and will have all the events, marketing and communications professionals reporting directly to it. The successful candidate will be responsible for the marketing comms budget and resources and will be expected to define the requirements for resource, skills, tools and partners to transform techUK. Person Specification Essential Knowledge and Experience Requirements Proven experience as a strategic marketing communications specialist with a passion for technology, brand building, the economy and the broad business environment. A strong leader and proven team builder to provide direction to an energetic and skilled team to deliver meaningful results – across media relations, digital content, member relations and events. A proactive, self-starter with a proven track record in delivering strategy-led, measurable and impactful campaigns An accomplished communicator with a track record of business-to-business marketing across a highly diverse range of stakeholders including policy makers, FTSE 100 companies, small to medium sized enterprises, industry and business associations Proven experience and strength in brand management with an understanding of how to manage and grow the techUK master brand and its successful programmes A strong creative writer, with the ability to articulate techUK’s mission across a range of channels targeted at diverse audience groups An analytical and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritise and communicate to staff key Responsibilities Build the techUK brand, act as brand guardian and maintain responsibility for clear brand hierarchy, as well as execution of brand across all channels. Become an ambitious advocate for the potential of technology to deliver positive progress for business, society and our planet Create and co-ordinate marketing strategies for key techUK programmes and provide cross programme marketing support to ensure co-ordination and avoid duplication of effort Design and deliver all national and regional focused external communications and campaigns Manage public relations and media (inbound and outbound) regionally and nationally Grow audiences and engagement across all channels: including digital, social, online, website, physical events etc. Review, develop and oversee a partnership and event strategy and plan as part of a joined up external relations and marketing approach Oversee the organisational CRM strategy to support inbound and outbound marketing Oversee the re-development of techUK’s web presence and provide clear direction on positioning, content, user experience, look/feel and data capture Manage multiple projects and priorities, as well as provide well considered issues management when needed This is a full-time role, reporting to the CEO, based at techUK’s London offices. This role profile is a guide to the work that is required but does not form part of any contract of employment and may change from time to time to reflect changing circumstances.
