About the Role Council’s Environmental Operations Branch are seeking an Officer to assist in writing & administering formal contractual arrangements, supervise and inspect operations by contractors, ensuring compliance with specifications and accepted standards. This will be in the domain of natural areas, vegetation & pathway maintenance; slashing maintenance and maintaining reserves, infrastructure & public open space. The successful candidate will support initial investigations and scoping of Natural Areas projects including liaising with stakeholders and assisting preparing maintenance schedules and contract variations. You will be accountable for monitoring the quality of service delivery via regular quality and safety audits utilising quality assurance systems, industry best practice and issuing defect notices as relevant. A significant component of your role will be negotiating positive business outcomes with both contractors and internal stakeholders. An additional requirement of the position is to undertake on ground fire management tasks including planned & unplanned burns. About you With a passion for the natural environment, you are Cert IV qualified in Conservation and Land Management or a similar discipline. Complementing this is your experience in contract supervision and administration in the arboriculture / horticulture industry. You thrive on technology with skills in GIS as well as Microsoft Office, and ability to use standard Council software applications. An effective communicator, you are a natural with negotiating, influencing groups and varying levels of the organisation as well as external stakeholders. The ability to prepare estimates, monitor and record project details and costs relative to the position is essential to your success. Candidates possessing qualifications in contract and / or project management and with Level 1 Bushfire management training are highly regarded for this position. The ability to maintain a flexible approach to challenging circumstances, coupled with willingness to acquire new skills is also desirable.
