As a Support Officer working with Refugee Families, you will be responsible for preparing for arrival and to provide a wide range of supports to assist families to settle in the South Lanarkshire area. You do not require to have experience in refugee support however, you must show that you have outstanding communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, excellent planning and organisational acumen and be very flexible and creative with your time, energy and problem solving abilities. Energy, empathy and motivation are essential in this role. You should also demonstrate the ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively and to respond and adapt to changing priorities required in delivering a quality service. As this post is responsive to the needs of refugees, you will be required to work flexible hours, approximately 140 hours over a four week period. You will also be required to participate, when required, in an on call rota for evening, night time and weekends, for which appropriate allowances will be paid. You should be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of a variety of IT packages including Microsoft Office Suite. You will be eligible to participate in the Council's Car Pool Scheme and it would be advantageous to have access to a vehicle for business purposes as this post requires travel across the South Lanarkshire area. The Council is committed to improving the skills and competence of our support colleagues and as part of your remit you will be required to undertake further training and/or qualifications, including those of the Scottish Social Services Council for employees working in the housing support sector. Requirements This post is excepted in terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 2003. This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007.
