We are looking for a Medical Laboratory assistant to join our busy, friendly team. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a Histopathology laboratory. Source BioScience is seeking a candidate with a keen interest in starting or developing a scientific career to join our team as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA). This new position is within the Molecular Diagnostics team, part of the Pathology Services division, which delivers greater than 10,000 clinical test results to clinicians and patients per year. It is therefore critical that the candidate has a passion for healthcare and patient-focussed-care. The MLA position offers the opportunity to support and assist in the provision of diagnostic services, through performing scientific tasks (following appropriate training) and general laboratory duties, including: · Preparation of clinical test material · Extraction of DNA from clinical material · Receipt and booking-in of specimens · Completion of periodic laboratory/equipment maintenance tasks · Receipt, testing, and formulation of laboratory reagents and materials · General laboratory ‘housekeeping’ duties · Administration tasks The ideal candidate will possess scientific A Levels or GCSEs (or equivalent; a degree is not a requirement for this position) in addition to strong maths, English, and IT skills. Previous experience working within a laboratory environment is desirable but not essential. The key attributes of the successful candidate are: attention to detail, team working, ability to work with accuracy within sometimes pressurised environments, an ability to take initiative and work logically, and the desire to work flexibly to tight deadlines to deliver patient results.
