Opening: Assistant or Associate Professor of Engineering Department of Sciences and Mathematics Simpson University Redding, California Effective Date: August 15, 2020 The Department of Sciences and Mathematics at Simpson University is launching a new and vibrant program in engineering, starting fall 2020 to provide general engineering curriculum within the context of Christian higher education. Students will participate in a 3+2 pre-engineering program with links to another university offering more specialized, upper division engineering courses. The successful candidate will also play a key role in the development of additional engineering emphases/specializations. Simpson University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission. Simpson is a private, liberal arts university offering a diversity of sciences and mathematics and associated programs including kinesiology, biology, nursing, mathematics, mathematics for educators and outdoor leadership. Our curriculum is rapidly expanding to include additional STEM-related opportunities in engineering, computer information systems and digital media. Responsibilities We are seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual with an abiding faith in Jesus Christ and a strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarship, university and community service and program development. The new faculty member will be responsible for teaching and advising undergraduate students in our general engineering program, with potential specializations in systems, mechanical, electrical and computer engineering. This individual will be responsible for curriculum design, assessment and evaluation for these programs. Additional responsibilities will include service to the department and the university. Qualifications Applicants should have at least a Master's degree in engineering or a related field with emphasis in engineering fundamentals, physics and mathematics. Preference will be given for PhD applicants in the appropriate fields of study as well as those applicants with prior teaching experience as well as employment experience as engineering professionals. All candidates should have the ability to teach circuits and devices coursework and laboratories. All candidates should have a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity.
