Legal Clerk II (LC II) directly reports to the Associate General Counsel (AGC) in the Litigation Department of the Office of General Counsel. LC II performs all duties as assigned by the AGC, which include the following. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Pursuant to dictation by AGC, LCII prepares legal pleadings in all civil cases initiated and maintained by the Litigation Section. These pleadings are filed in all state courts in Arkansas and in both Districts of the United States Bankruptcy Court in Arkansas. These pleadings include, but are not limited to, Summonses, Complaints, Answers, Cross and Counterclaims, Motions, Judgments, Decrees, Orders, Discovery Requests, Reaffirmation Agreements, Proofs of Claim, and Notices. LCII prepares all related correspondence to the civil cases. LCII communicates daily with Circuit and Probate Clerks, Sheriffs (in Arkansas and throughout the U.S.), title companies, attorneys’ offices, civil process servers, publication companies, county and state government offices, law enforcement, and other necessary third-party providers. LCII communicates daily with Simmons Officers and Associates on all civil cases. LCII conducts internal research to calculate amounts due and owing in all collection, replevin, foreclosure, and bankruptcy matters. LCII assists with the compilation, pagination, and production of subpoena productions when Legal Clerk I (Subpoena Clerk) is unavailable. LCII daily opens and date stamps all incoming internal and external mail in order that proper docketing of all applicable dates is calendared. LCII assists in the review of miscellaneous bankruptcy notices and pleadings. Upon the completion of each case, LCII closes the litigation file. LCII develops and maintains the storage database for offsite safekeeping and efficient retrieval of closed files. LCII processes and manages check requests using SharePoint Accounting System. LCII communicates with third party providers regarding the maintenance and repair of office equipment in the Litigation Section and replenishes supplies. At all times, LCII recognizes, acknowledges, and maintains the confidentiality of all information housed within the Litigation Department. LCII ensures all departmental documents and activities are performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures as applicable to this position, including completion of required compliance training. LCII performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, general business correspondence and/or journals or government regulations. Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial report and/or legal documents. Ability to write routine reports, procedures and business correspondence. Ability to respond in writing to customer complaints, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to customers, clients and other employees in the organization. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or its equivalent is required, and Five plus years of job related experience College degree preferred Computer Skills MS Office programs Other Qualifications (including physical requirements) Knowledge and understanding of legal systems in states organization has offices.
