Job purpose The HR Specialist will work closely alongside the Director of HR focusing on employee engagement and retention, health & safety, payroll, and talent acquisition. The person in this role with work in an HR Generalist function and provide administration/reception relief as needed. Duties and responsibilities Key Tasks & Responsibilities: Talent Acquisition · Provide advice and counsel for staffing, recruitment, planning and equity · Effectively manage the full cycle recruitment process including creating job descriptions, managing job postings, screening resumes, phone screening potential candidates, setting up interviews with hiring managers, following up with candidates, conduct full background checks, and present offers to successful candidates · Conduct orientation and training for new hires · Responsible for ensuring that the organization effectively develops and utilizes the full potential of the entire workforce Employee Engagement · Lead the task force responsible for employee engagement · Implement and maintain engagement and recognition strategies · Assess and report on appropriate engagement surveys, methodologies and results · Create a comprehensive, inclusive and dynamic work environment reflective of staff feedback and current best practices · Plan, coordinate and/or support efforts such as “Take Our Kids to Work Day”, employee events, and lunch and learn sessions · Corporate Responsibility Payroll · Administer payroll processing for two separate payrolls · Strong understanding of processes and practices associated with payroll · Provide employees with additional year-end tax forms as needed (i.e. T2200, TP-64.3) · Process Record of Employment · Process “Request for Payroll/Earning” forms for Service Canada as needed · Act as the first point of contact for any payroll-related issues Health & Safety · Chair the Health & Safety Committee · Provide leadership guidance, coaching and mentor to JH&S committee as needed · Implement and support H&S initiatives and programs including incident reporting & investigation, training, quarterly inspections and any regulatory compliance programs · Work with the H&S committee to establish and create policies and procedures to meet health and safety requirements · Work with internal contacts and service providers to resolve claims and coverage, and find solutions/provide recommendations · Administers leave programs such as long-term disability and sick leave · Liaise with WSIB claims managers and third-party disability managers to identify safe and early return to work opportunities Employee Relations · Serves as an escalation point for medium to complex personnel and employee relation issues and provide guidance and intervention · Supports and advises on personnel on HR policy, ensuring compliance to the company's policies · Liaise with and respond to enquiries, complaints and concerns in a timely manner, and proactively engage in problem analysis and resolution · Support investigations, issue resolution, corrective actions, and coaching/guidance regarding policies/procedures Other HR/Administrative Duties · Develop and maintain company policy and procedures · Maintain HR records including vacation database, and organization charts · Reception relief as needed Qualifications University Degree or College Diploma in Human Resources Management required CHRP designation required Payroll and benefits administration experience with ADP Workforce now an asset Minimum four (4) years of work experience in an HR generalist role Strong knowledge of Ontario Human Rights Code, Ontario Health and Safety Act, AODA, Employment Standards Act, and Labour Relations Act Strong project management and organization skills and the ability to plan and prioritize complex and competing deadlines under time pressures Excellent interpersonal skills, and strong verbal and communication skills Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and privacy at all times We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
