We own much of the available development land at Wilton International where we deliver high quality centralised utilities and services to a range of energy intensive manufacturers. Our move into the UK distributed energy generation market came in 2018 and our fast-acting, flexible units, supported by significant battery storage capacity, help to keep the country’s electricity system balanced and resilient. As the UK transitions towards a more sustainable future with the emphasis on renewable forms of energy, our flexible power plants already help offset the intermittency of renewables by supplying secure, low carbon electricity direct to the grid when it’s needed most. Position Overview: As the Energy Trader you will focus on the short-term GB trading markets utilising Sembcorp assets and maximising value from trading and Grid Service options around Sembcorp’s assets. You will be required to monitor the market and report on market drivers as well as identifying potential risks to Sembcorp’s portfolio. You will report to the Trading Manager and work closely with a small team and as such, the demands on your time and expertise will be significant. The Energy Trader will be required to work on a shift basis as per the trading rota including weekends. You will be expected to demonstrate the appropriate behaviours and commitment towards health and safety to ensure we maintain our first-class safety culture. Responsibilities: · Execute approved strategies in trading for both the Power and Gas markets · Execute renewable trading strategies (ROCs and EU ETS carbon) · Enhance the development and optimisation of trading strategies for Sembcorp’s current and future assets from grid services, intra-day, day ahead and front month markets · Assist in the evaluation of new market opportunities · Provide analytical support for detailed and timely analysis of European gas and electricity markets · Interact with market participants and counterparties to maximize value and ensure efficient market interactions Requirements: · Experience of Electricity and Gas trading in the UK is a must · Experience of analysing large datasets is required · Advanced competency with Microsoft Packages is essential · A relevant Degree such as Maths, Economics, Business or Finance is preferred · Experience of working with trading systems (ETRM) would be beneficial · A full driving licence is required · Right to work in the UK is essential The Energy Trader will be a strong team player who works equally as well independently and is able to demonstrate a flexible and positive attitude. The role will require excellent analytical, problem solving, communication, influencing and organisation skills as well as strong commercial acumen. Attention to detail and the ability to focus on priorities under pressure and within strict time constraints is required as well as the ability to act quickly in a fast-paced environment.
