Scientific Drilling is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will work within our Wellbore Positioning Manufacturing team focusing specifically on electro-mechanical gyroscopes and accelerometer systems used for precise navigation underground. Focus will be on improving manufacturing processes by working with assemblers and technicians along with technology development to implement improvements to current and future technology. The ability to understand and troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems is a key requirement. Key Job Functions: Utilize apparatus and procedures to test electronic components, circuits and systems for line support and in-process failure analysis. Oscilloscope, power supply, function generator, digital multi-meter use required. Perform operational maintenance and testing of electronic products, components, equipment and systems using knowledge of electronic theory and application principles. Assist in the qualification of electronic circuits and components for use in down-hole drilling and production logging applications where tools must function to 150C+ temperatures and survive a high vibration environment. Review schematics, technical drawings, and supporting documents for manufacturing, and verify specifications, such as configuration of parts, dimensions and tolerances. Improve product drawings, schematics and specifications; makes recommendations for changes to Engineering documentation through ECO/ECR. Continual Process Improvement; refines, upgrades, and modifies the manufacturing process to promote efficiency, cost effectiveness, and quality. Plans manufacturing processes for space utilization, process optimization, and work force efficiency. Identifies, installs and supports new manufacturing equipment. New Product Integration: Attends design review meetings and works with Engineering on new products to ensure manufacturability. Designs various tooling to support manufacturing/inspection requirements. Works with purchasing and vendors for compliance to quality standards. Meets Environmental compliance. Trains for in-plant safety. Trains manufacturing staff. Works independently and within team environment. Manage workstation and practice good housekeeping techniques. Pursue every job with drive and determination. Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions. Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business. Key Job Competencies: Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design, development, test and production of products. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, principles of production, schematics, drawings and modelling. Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software. Knowledge of analog and digital sensors. Knowledge of low power design and microprocessor interfacing. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Ability to work in fast paced and results driven environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at once. Good organizational and communication skills. Ability to present oneself with professional appearance and behaviour in accordance with company procedures and policies. Ability to meet all SDI/ATC safety requirements. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electronic, Computer, Manufacturing) or equivalent applicable engineering experience. 0-2+ years of engineering experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, PowerPoint). Preferred Qualifications: Experience in IPC-610, IPC-620, J-STD. Experience in SMT and thru-hole components. Experience in Python, C#, or Matlab. Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ANSI Y14.5. Experience with SolidWorks or Altium. Familiar with Lean Concepts. Experience with electro-mechanical systems. Physical Job Requirements: Manufacturing: Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 25 lbs. and under, perceive depth, and operate motor equipment. Conditions include working inside. Working around moving objects, machines with moving parts. Working around radiant and electrical energy. Work with heated soldering iron and flux. Working closely with others, working alone, working extended and/or irregular hours. Working environment may include but not limited to, intermittent noise, fumes, smoke, grease, dust, oils and solvents. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computer and related equipment, calculator, special instrumentation, hand tools, power tools, air tools, microscope and telephone. Working closely with others or working alone. Working extended and/or irregular hours and travelling by all possible modes of transportation.
