Position Description A temporary part time (0.4) Reading Recovery Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. The assignment will be at Bert Ambrose Elementary School. Bert Ambrose Elementary is a K-6 school located in the northeast of section the City of Fort St John. The school will have a student population of 230 students in the 2020-21 school year, 9% of whom are Indigenous students. Parents are actively involved in our school community; volunteering in our classrooms, coaching sports teams, and assisting with various PAC activities. Teachers, administrators, and support staff work collaboratively to provide a vibrant learning environment for our students. Qualifications and Experience Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for) Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students Desire and passion to work with our school team Successful experience and training in reading recovery, or willing to undertake the training The ability to build strong, positive relationships with students Training and experience in phonemic awareness and guided reading programs Training for and experience teaching primary age students Experience in effective team teaching in collaborative teaching environments Experience with and commitment to using individualized and group instruction with a variety of effective strategies, techniques, and resources Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all children to learn Training and experience teaching ELL, ASD, and FASD students Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individual plans (IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs) for students with academic, social and emotional learning difficulties Ability to use performance standards in all areas Awareness of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the new curriculum Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance Based Assessment Experience with teaching self-regulation strategies in the classroom Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) Excellent technology skills Ability and willingness to incorporate a variety of technology into regular classroom instruction Strong classroom management skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning and with professional and staff development Willingness to commit to ongoing professional development Interested applicants are required to supply Three (3) references Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) Compensation 2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas $2,520.09 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE) Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $48,657 - $91,278 Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance.
