District Principal – Education Services Surrey Schools provides quality education to more than 73,000 students in 130 schools. The district is seeking interest from exemplary educators to join its dynamic team as District Principal – Education Services. Central to the team’s work is building school and system-wide capacity of the district’s vision of Learning by Design. To support educators in creating learning environments that prepare learners for a world in which they think creatively and critically, communicate skillfully, and demonstrate care for self and others, the department is committed to collectively providing leadership and on-going support of innovative approaches and research-based practices that enhance student learning. The District Principal will work closely with the department’s Priority Practices team, as well as Assistant Superintendents, Directors of Instruction, and other District Principals. In addition to supporting district goals with a focus on engaging in and with research and data collection, the primary responsibilities for this District Principal position include: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment – Supporting implementation of BC’s competency-based curriculum through ongoing professional learning that is aligned with the district’s priority practices; Communicating Student Learning – Providing leadership in using quality assessment, both formative and summative, as the basis for responsive, ongoing communication between students, parents, and teachers; Evidence-Informed Practice – Leading and facilitating professional collaboration and learning aimed at developing widespread understanding and use of evidence to inform teaching and learning; Learning Technologies – Leading and empowering district leaders and school communities to plan for meaningful learning supported by digital technology – with a focus on critical thinking and collaboration; Digital Resources – Helping to build system capacity in leveraging digital learning tools and resources for effective teaching and learning; Other portfolio areas as assigned.
