We are currently recruiting for a Technical Manager within the technical department for Walkers Deli to be based at our Walkers Deli & Sausage, Cobden Street site in Leicester. Job Opportunity To ensure that each production facility within Walkers Deli meets all necessary legislative and agreed customer standards with regard to hygiene, food handling and food safety, at reasonable cost. Develop and maintain good relationships with customer/external contacts, and use external feedback, as well as latest industry insights as the basis for continuous improvement for the Technical function. Effectively manage the Quality Assurance team to control and monitor quality of raw material, product, process control systems and training requirements, driving appropriate actions as required, using a management style which promotes excellent working relationships with colleagues at all levels across the business and in particular Production. As a functional head and member of the site senior team, contribute to the overall strategy and planning (short and long term) of the business. Responsible for making food safety, quality and integrity decisions to ensure that all products despatched are legal, safe and comply with relevant customer specifications. Ongoing liaison with retailers as appropriate e.g. product, process and raw material specifications. Attend retailer led tasting to ensure consistency of products. Ensure conformance with customer codes of practice. Ensure Health & Safety requirements throughout the function are met. Liaise with other Samworth Group Technical and Development teams. Liaise with all Regulatory enforcement bodies – EHO, TSO, DEFRA etc. Maintain the site at the required standards to meet regulatory, BRC & customer audit requirements. To advise the company on all current legislation relating to the safety and legality of food manufacture and specific customer requirements. To ensure the design and structure of the company’s premises and equipment comply with all relevant food hygiene legislation. To ensure adequate monitoring / management systems are in place focussed on food safety, food handling and good manufacturing practice and to ensure these systems and that these systems provide robust Due Diligence defence if challenged. Ensure effective HACCP systems are in operation. To ensure all product, process and raw material specifications comply with customer and legal requirements. To oversee customer services – reply to customer complaints, maintain records and follow up complaints with the relevant production department. Responsibilities To manage the team of QA Managers, Technicians and Officers, ensuring an appropriate structure is in place encompassing key skills, appropriate accountabilities and future development. Overall responsibility for upkeep and review of quality manual. To take the lead in the organisation and implementation of HACCP systems across both production units. To ensure internal audits are regularly carried, any non-conformances raised and acted upon by relevant management. To co-ordinate microbiological testing regime for product, swabs and raw materials via QA Managers. To co-ordinate, respond and investigate customer complaints, including store complaints, initiating actions as required with relevant departmental managers / supervisors. To ensure adequate training is provided to all relevant direct reporting departments and individuals therein. To lead customer technical audits, involving other departments as required. To prepare and manage annual budgets for the Technical department and associated areas, and to justify and finalise these budgets for approval and then monitor cost control against approved budgets.
