To supervise the local Team effectively and efficiently to ensure the region’s offices maintains optimum customer satisfaction, quality & HEALTH & SAFETY requirements and good housekeeping. To contribute to the attainment of the Business’ strategies by performing duties of a Materials Engineer / Technician in accordance with the relevant codes and Regulations and/or perform duties as designated from time to time by the Operations Manager or NEW ZEALAND Business Manager SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervise the operational branch staff on the day to day activities (team members work schedules) Carry out inspections and testing of Industrial Plant, products, components and the like, and ensure that all tasks and reports are completed and delivered in a timely manner to meet customer expectations and compliance requirements Training of Trainees and other staff within competency level Create a culture of high performance and a winning attitude through effective leadership and communication to ensure full utilization of teams Manage local teams of inspectors / technicians / engineers to ensure operational requirements from scheduling, execution through to invoicing meets business processes Assist the NEW ZEALAND Business Managers in identifying new business strategies and implement to maximise business returns whilst minimizing exposure and risk for the company Maintain regular and effective communication to the regional teams and local team members to ensure high level of commitment and employee satisfaction To work with other Operational Managers/supervisors and Product Managers in the interest of the SGS’s business Communicate with customers to ensure that all tasks and reports are completed and delivered in a timely manner to meet customer expectations and compliance requirements Maintain and calibrate specialised tools and equipment as required to ensure down time is kept to a minimum Carry out all activities in a safety conscious manner to ensure compliance of all SGS, customer and NEW ZEALAND OSH requirements are met Work on projects as requested Maintain and develop skills and qualifications needed to perform role Identify services SGS can provide to clients and potential business opportunities, whilst maximizing business returns and minimizing the company’s exposure to risk Supervise local office team members work schedules and liaise with regional coordinators. Will provide profitable technical, predictive and proactive maintenance services to strategic customers Operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Statement of Integrity PROFILE A Mechanical trade certificate, Engineering Degree or Associate Diploma 5 years’ experience in the field of Materials Testing Good verbal and written communication skills Sound PC software knowledge Willingness to travel to customer sites around the New Zealand Having valid driving license REQUIRED SKILLS Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers providing the highest quality products and services Establishes and maintains effective relationship with customers and gains their trust and respect Gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in services Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions, can see hidden problems Looks beyond the obvious and doesn’t stop at the first answer Excellent verbal and written communication skills – can write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication setting and can get messages across that have the desired effect Relates well to all kinds of people, up, down, and sideways, inside and outside of the organisation Steps up to conflicts, seeing them as opportunities Provides the information people need to know to do their jobs and to feel good about being a member of the team Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implemented solutions Understands the origin and reasoning behind key policies, practices and procedures Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently The ability to challenge the status quo to achieve quality commitments and continuous improvement OPERATIONAL INTEGRITY / HEALTH & SAFETY Demonstrates strong commitment to Health & Safety Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions by participating in safety meetings, completing required training, intervening in unsafe situations, refusing unsafe work, and complying fully with all applicable laws and regulations related to HSE Responds appropriately to emergency situations and assists other staff members in maintaining readiness to respond to emergencies within the workplace In accordance with the HSE Management System requirements, disposes of, or directs the disposal of, waste generated as a part of daily work performed in a safe manner and in compliance with all waste transportation and disposal regulations and requirements Reports all incidents (actual incidents and near misses) in accordance with the Incident Reporting requirements Uses all equipment (including safety equipment) in the manner intended and reports any damaged / lost equipment to supervisor Maintain a safe and tidy worksite Maintains awareness of hazards and proposes controls to supervisor, HSE Representatives or relevant client / site contact Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by management
