SAHMRI is seeking a research scientist with broad laboratory experience in biochemistry to work with our Women and Kids Theme. A person who has worked on the chemical composition of milk including ingredients such as lipids, oligosaccharides, fat/water soluble vitamins, proteins, or fatty acids would be preferred. The research will be based across the main SAHMRI laboratories and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital so familiarity with working in a clinical setting is essential. The successful candidate will have an excellent publication record and a strong desire to grow their career in a research environment that does world-leading research. About the Role Key responsibilities include: · Lead and develop a successful research program in the area of human milk composition that is/grows to become internationally competitive · Provide biochemical leadership in other areas of the SAHMRI Women and Kids Theme, including generating original ideas based on outcomes · Attract and prepare research proposals for major external sources of funding (for example NHMRC or equivalent). · Provide leadership and mentoring to early career researchers and assist them in meeting their research goals · Assist with the establishment and maintenance of high quality research processes and outputs involving the supervision of post-graduate students. · Identify opportunities for strategic development of new projects or appropriate areas of activity and contribute to the development of such ideas. · Primarily located at the SAHMRI Building, North Terrace with some travel required between other SAHMRI Women and Kids sites including Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre About You The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes: · Post-graduate qualification (PhD) and at least 4 years postdoctoral experience in biochemistry or a related biological science discipline · Practical experience in laboratory research methods · At least 4 years of direct engagement in relevant area of research · Author of quality publications in peer-reviewed reputable scientific journals · Knowledge of systems and processes to support the collation and management of high quality data and accuracy in research · Knowledge of confidentiality and privacy laws and guidelines relevant to health and medical research Everything we do is underpinned by our core values and our institute is dedicated to grow a culture that pursues, enables and demands research excellence.
