RMA Business Services is one of Canada’s largest and most influential public sector buying groups. The Position This is a claims technical position. The incumbent is responsible for directing the investigation, evaluation, negotiation and resolution of commercial property and liability claims within a given authority. These claims may involve complex legal issues. The position requires analytical, decision making and resource management skills and is a preparatory role for handling larger property losses and liability claims in litigation as an intermediate or senior examiner. As with all positions throughout the RMA there may be a required element of participation in non-insurance specific areas such as the member conventions. The estimated starting salary for this position is $60,000 per year with a comprehensive benefits package. Reports to: The Manager of Claims The Junior Claims Examiner will have access to highly confidential member and association information, and it is expected and required information be held in the strictest confidence. Roles and Responsibilities ·Primarily responsible for directing field adjusters in the investigation and disposition of various types of claims in the commercial property and commercial liability areas, applying broad, manuscript type package wordings. Successful accomplishment requires innovative, cost effective strategies to achieve optimum resolution; ·Appoint, control and direct external service providers including adjusters and other experts as per industry standards; ·May need to meet and negotiate with members, and give direction to experts in various fields depending on the needs of the situation; ·Able to exercise strong judgement with minimum direction in resolving complex or contentious situations; ·Assist in claim inquiries and ensure all claims are promptly investigated; ·Ensure coordinated and timely investigation through communication with the control adjusters; ·Review and interpret property and liability policy wordings, acts, regulations and legislation in order to confirm coverage; ·Set reserves and authorize payment within scope of authority and settle claims in the most cost effective and timely manner possible; ·Control indemnity and expenses through proactive claims handling techniques, including the pursuit of subornation where applicable; ·Ensure all claims negotiations are conducted with integrity and that settlements are accurate and fair; ·Attend training as necessary to ensure skills evolve with changes in the industry; ·Assist the Claims Manager, Senior Examiner, and other Insurance staff as necessary; ·Maintain an active file load The successful candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, be a strong team player, have attention to detail and maintain integrity in all dealings. They must be analytical, decisive and able to work independently while maintaining the parameters of assigned authority; utilizing company technology to track and expedite all transactions. Qualifications ·Enrollment in the CIP/ FCIP program, or equivalent education ·Strong Business Planning and negotiation skills ·Flexibility and ability to problem solve ·Enthusiastically support change, share experiences and actively seek new challenges ·Minimum of 5 years claims adjusting experience ·Experience in Liability/Casualty/Property claims adjusting with associated technical expertise ·Field Claims adjusting experience an asset ·Strong communication skills, including listening, interviewing, negotiating, and must be able to flex style appropriate to audience ·Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting priorities in an effective manner ·Proactive and positive approach to member service ensuring that all enquiries are effectively dealt with in a timely manner ·Strong interpersonal skills enabling an ability to effectively deal with conflict and difficult situations ·Strong commitment to the association goals and philosophy Competencies required to succeed ·Leadership skills - the ability to direct adjusters and outside experts effectively ·Problem Solving - the ability to look at situations and barriers to creatively provide solutions that meet the needs of all parties in the best collective manner possible ·Determination – the ability to continue to strive for a solution despite obstacles from others and/or difficult situations ·An understanding of the concept of Reciprocal Insurance Exchanges and the unique Insured; Insurer client relationship they present Financial Management ·Responsible for the management of expenses as per management direction. File Quality/ Customer Service ·In preparation for QA file reviews, review billings and fees in accordance with established billing expectations and Association standards ·Assist in handling client complaints ·Review and analyze adjuster’s reports, ensuring compliance/accuracy and efficiency ·Review fees for accuracy and quality Technical Expertise and Support ·Acts in a consultative and advisory capacity on claims matters and technical issues such as: liability determination, investigation, policy interpretation, settlement negotiation, and reserve establishment for claim. ·Provides file review feedback and in some cases direction on file completion Other ·Maintain vendor relationships and monitor performance of vendor partners. Report trends to the Manager of Claims. ·Special projects as assigned by Manager or Senior Examiner ·Responsible for the communication of corporate policies and ensuring compliance of claims vendor/partners Education ·Enrolled in CIP/FCIP program, or equivalent education ·Minimum 5 years claims adjusting experience ·Experience in Liability/Casualty/Property claims adjusting with associated technical expertise ·Field Claims adjusting experience an asset ·Valid Alberta Driver’s License This opportunity is an entry level examining position for the individual who wishes to have a career in public sector insurance claims examining. It primarily involves examining local government entity losses which are investigated in the field by our Control Adjuster, Priddle and Associates.
