The Senior Accounting Associate supports the Financial Services Department by performing a wide variety of functions including transactional processing, financial analysis, working paper and financial statement preparation, monthly reconciliations, annual audit support and the implementation of financial and compliance controls. The key responsibilities in this role relate to banking and treasury management, purchasing and procurement accounting processes, and business process/system development for non-capital expenditures. The Senior Accounting Associate serves as a key resource for the organization and provides daily financial oversight to ensure that the financial records are complete, accurate and comply with generally accepted accounting principles, policies and regulations, to facilitate solid decision support. The Senior Accounting Associate serves as a subject matter expert to support work/project teams, and committees, providing individual consultation, technical assistance, and training to finance staff in order to improve efficiencies and explain best practices. Job Requirements Level four accounting designation program (CPA) and a post-secondary degree or an equivalent level combination of education and experience Minimum of five years accounting experience, with increasing levels of administrative and operational responsibilities and accountabilities Demonstrated financial abilities in cash and treasury management preferred Strong problem solving and analytical skills Ability to recommend solutions for complex issues, inquiries and problems Ability to apply GAAP and PSAB standards Experience in planning and project management Strong communications skills, presentation and interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate effectively with a variety of client types (vendors, contractors, learners, faculty, support staff, senior management, other professionals) Strong computer skills using MS Office suite of software required Knowledge or experience with Unit 4 Business Financials an asset Additional Information This is a temporary, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week for a term until at least March 31, 2021, with an expectation of extending up to 4 years. The position has been evaluated at MPT-C with a salary range of $64,248 (minimum) to $75,585 (midpoint) to $86,922 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
