About the Organization Since 1983, Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon has provided a home-away-from-home for out of town families with children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses and are receiving treatment at BC Children’s Hospital. The House provides a nurturing and supportive environment where families can heal together. In addition, we operate a 2,000 square foot Family Room in Surrey Memorial Hospital, providing families a medical-free space to rest and retreat while steps away from their child. The second largest House in Canada and the fifth largest in the world, RMHBC will continue to grow to meet the needs of families in BC and Yukon through the addition of Family Rooms and a focus on expanding our reach throughout the communities we serve. About the Position Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Facility Operations is responsible for managing the physical premises of the House and Family Rooms, including the safe operation of all building systems, security and technology to ensure optimal results, and safeguarding the wellbeing of guest families, employees, volunteers and visitors. The Director, Facility Operations will contribute to department budget development, and monitor and manage purchases and capital expenditures, third-party contractors, and remain compliant with provincial and federal regulations. This position manages the Operations Coordinator, Facilities Coordinator, and Housekeeping contract, and provides training, support and direction to department employees. Key Responsibilities: Select, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate Facility Operations department employees Develop and implement safety and security policies and procedures to safeguard guest families, employees, volunteers and visitors, as well as physical assets of the organization Select and evaluate third-party contractors (building equipment and technology, landscaping, snow removal, etc.) and projects, ensuring all contractors have appropriate clearance, insurance, qualifications and appropriate supervision before they begin work onsite Select and evaluate contractors for projects as appropriate and in accordance with budget and organization objectives Manages building management system to schedule, prioritize and update projects, repairs and repetitive maintenance Oversees and/or performs troubleshooting and repairs; maintains stock of repair parts and materials Ensures efficient performance of technology and telecommunication systems to support all operations Develops and administers Facility Operations department budget Participates in the development and achievement of organizational strategic priorities Works with building employees on periodic inspections of all facility equipment and systems, lighting, fire safety and security systems Completes daily checks of building management system Oversees ordering of all House inventory and supplies Locates and acquires parts for emergency breakdowns as required Ensures department is compliant with safety and security protocols, as well as provincial and federal regulations Prepares and distributes reports for senior management Other duties as required.
