Mine Geologist Be part of a global mining organization with a strong focus on safety Work with an exceptional team of operations and technical people Opportunity to introduce and implement continuous improvement initiatives About the role We are looking for a Geologist, to be responsible for grade control, sampling, mapping, analyzing, interpreting, and managing mine geological information to facilitate appropriate material placement for efficient mining practices. Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Geology, this role will be responsible for the work of various underground and pit contractors and various types of drill crews. Located in Lac de Gras Mine Site, you will be and will be working on a 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off rotational schedule. The main responsibilities will be: Completing daily inspections of the working faces in the pit, stockpile areas, and waste dumps; Making accurate reports available on the same day for the Senior Geologist and pertinent Operations personnel; Performing geological mapping and sampling as required by departmental procedures; Completing Geological logging of diamond drill holes. Update geological databases and models regularly; Testing models for accuracy and providing accurate, reliable geological interpretations of structures in the pit; Defining ore/waste contacts and conveying ore/waste contacts information (grade control) to Operations personnel as frequently as required to ensure efficient in-pit and underground operations; In the Senior Geologist’s absence, assuming his/her duties including reporting requirements in the areas of ore and waste reconciliation; Logging kimberlite core and inputting geological information accurately into databases to keep them up-to-date; Producing updated maps, plots, and interpretations for the Mine Planners to help Operations meet their timetables; Liaising with Process personnel regarding ore type availability, changes to scheduled mining, or issues that could affect ore delivery; Assisting in the coordination and implementation of in-pit and underground diamond/reverse circulation drilling programs to ensure operating and safety procedures are being adhered to by contractors; Helping maintain the core and sample libraries. About you To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: Bachelor’s Degree in Geological, Mining, Earth Sciences or related field; Minimum 2 years’ Geological experience in mining or exploration; Diamond mining industry experience would be an asset; Member or be eligible for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Northwest Territories (NAPEG); Strong analytical skills and a proven ability to apply a broad range of scientific principles and ability to turn data into information that can be understood and used by others; Knowledge of 3D visualization software (e.g., Vulcan, Leapfrog) is an asset; Demonstrated ability to research, compare and analyze voluminous geological information; Strong planning, organizational, management and communications skills; Excellent knowledge of word processing, working knowledge of database systems (Access, acQuire etc) and spreadsheet software; Knowledge of drilling techniques including grouting, coring, reverse circulation; Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team in a results-oriented environment; A strong safety mindset.
