Bylaw Enforcement Officer The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is seeking an individual for the position of Bylaw Enforcement Officer. This full-time position offers a competitive salary and a full range of benefits based in Terrace, B.C. The area is vibrant with a rich cultural history. Terrace is a community with a regional population of about 18,000 people situated alongside the Skeena River in northwestern BC. It is the retail, business and medical hub for the region with immense outdoor recreational opportunities, such as skiing, fishing, golfing and hiking, along with a diverse arts and culture community. The Regional District provides a variety of local government services to an area of 100,000km² in northwestern British Columbia. Services range from rural land use planning to community water systems, fire protection, library services, solid waste services, recreation facilities and programs. The Region is undergoing a period of growth with increasing demands for new services. Reporting to the Director of Planning & Development Services, the Bylaw Enforcement Officer is responsible for conducting inspections, investigating and processing complaints, enforcing a broad range of Regional District bylaws, regulations, including preparing evidence for court and prosecution of offences. Customer relations and conflict management skills form key components of the position requiring the Bylaw Enforcement Officer to interpret bylaws, regulations and applicable rules to the public. The work also includes oversight and management of the Thornhill Dog Control operations and Animal Control Officers. The preferred candidate will possess the following qualifications: Minimum grade 12 or equivalent Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Skills Level 1 Certificate or equivalent At least 2 years related experience, preferably with local government or equivalent Problem solving and conflict resolution training and experience Strong written and verbal communication skills Valid class 5 BC driver’s license with a driving record indicative of responsible driving habits The successful candidate will be required to submit to a satisfactory criminal record check.
