Detailed Job Description The Bylaw Services department of the Corporate and Community Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Parking Enforcement Officer. Reporting to the Bylaw Services Supervisor, this permanent full time position starts as soon as possible offering 72 hours bi-weekly with shifts Thursday’s to Sunday’s. Shift hours will vary depending on the season. The Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for actively patrolling and enforcing the Municipality's Parking and Highway Use Bylaws throughout municipal streets, lanes and lots to promote safety, the free flow of traffic and the availability of parking for both the public and local businesses. The position will engage with a variety of user groups and will provide education to explain parking bylaw regulations and the ticketing appeals process. The Parking Enforcement Officer will also act as an ambassador of Whistler by answering general questions about community special events and municipal programs and departments. Qualified candidates will have a grade 12 diploma supplemented by a minimum of 1-3 years of directly related work experience with a background in dealing with the public in an authoritative role, including experience managing and resolving conflict situations. Candidates must possess the ability to learn, interpret and appropriately apply municipal bylaws; the ability to work well with the public using tact, diplomacy and discretion; and the proven ability to make sound decisions on-the-spot and effectively handle conflict situations. Candidates must also be knowledgeable of the resort community and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and other windows based software to allow for accurate and effective records management and data entry. The completion of recognized conflict resolution courses and knowledge of municipal bylaws and policies will be considered a strong asset. The successful candidate will be an approachable and diplomatic individual who enjoys engaging with the public and is customer service focused. They will possess exceptional verbal communication and listening skills; be a proven analytical thinker and problem solver; is self-motivated and able to work well independently; and has the proven ability to work closely with others and contribute to a positive team environment. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC Driver’s License, provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract and must obtain a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
