Overview: The Head of Operations and Security will be responsible for the successful delivery of the Operations and Security service. They will lead the Operations and Security team covering security, infrastructure and service delivery disciplines, to effectively deliver all IT infrastructure and related IT operations to enable business capabilities and services. Including ensuring they are secure and recoverable. The role will also form part of the IM&T leadership team responsible for ensuring the provision of a robust and service orientated capability. Responsibilities: Establish a robust, capable and service orientated IT operations and security service, including but not limited to: Provide technical leadership and expertise, contributing to organisational health by performance managing the team. Support their development including through coaching and mentoring. Lead and motivate them to ensure effective delivery. Provide technical input into the development, implementation and maintenance of service recovery plans, including major incident and disaster recovery plans. Ensure identified actions to improve security and resilience are implemented. Drive continuous improvement including keeping up to date with emerging technologies and methods and their potential application to bring value and efficiencies. Ensure a complete catalogue of services are established, reviewed and maintained. Ensure service levels are well defined and effective, and there is adherence to policy and process. Establish, review and maintain operational methods, procedures and tools. Manage delivery of the IT infrastructure, security and support services, including but not limited to: Ensure the installation, upgrading, operation, control, maintenance and effective use of IT infrastructure components. Ensure agreed targets for Operations and Security services are met. Ensure operational problems are identified, recorded, monitored and resolved. Collaborate and negotiate with relevant parties in respect of disruptions and major amendments to the provision of services. Build long term, strategic relationships with senior stakeholders, both internally and externally. Lead actions to improve relationships between stakeholders. Identify the communication and relationship need of stakeholder groups, acting as a single point of contact and escalation for IT operations. Provide informed feedback to senior stakeholders on impacts to service. Champion high standards of customer service, in all aspects of interaction between users and the organisations systems, products and services, including involvement of users in evaluation activities. Instil a customer centric service culture, and accountability for security and resilience, across the IM&T function. Ensure IT facilities to provide agreed business continuity and recovery are in place. Provide input and assurance to support review of budget allocation, costs and resourcing for the operations and security service. Including anticipating future resourcing needs and capability gaps. Actively measure the cost, value and benefit of operational IT assets and services, promoting value, and taking steps to drive efficiencies where required. Understand and promote links between the IM&T teams, helping to eliminate silos within IM&T and across the organisation. Actively promote compliance with relevant legislation, taking a leading role in promoting a culture of security throughout the team and organisation. Actively take steps to manage and mitigate risks. Actively promote a culture of learning, to keep both own and colleagues’ skills current. Understand and consider broad business needs in relations to IT infrastructure and services, including planning for service disruption and recovery. Qualifications: A degree in a maths, science or computer science discipline, an equivalent level professional qualification, or relevant equivalent experience. Demonstrable experience owning technical, financial and quality aspects of the IT operations and security services, establishing objectives and assigning responsibilities to enable these. Demonstrable experience influencing strategy and policy formation for operational services, building relationships with internal and external customers, suppliers and peers at a senior level. Demonstrable experience contributing to the implementation of operations and security policy and strategy. Demonstrable experience performing an extensive range and variety of complex work, covering technical, financial and quality aspects, creatively applying a wide range of technical and management principles. Demonstrable experience in a leadership role including the ability to gain buy in and influence at all levels. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate to both to technical and non-technical audiences. Demonstrable experience leading an IT operations and security services in a complex, dynamic environment. Demonstrable experience developing governance practices to track and measure the quality of services, manage change, and maintain service improvement plans.
