The opportunity We currently have a full-time 12 month max term contract opportunity for a Senior Legal Consultant to join QIC’s Legal team in Brisbane and provide legal services and advice to work groups within QIC’s Global Real Estate investment team. Specifically your focus will be: Providing the General Counsel and other Senior Executives with legal advice. Working closely with the Global Real Estate team to implement QIC’s business strategies and initiatives in a risk aware manner. Acting as a thought leader developing awareness of legal issues and their implications across all areas of QIC’s business. Advising on legal matters of high importance to QIC or its clients to ensure that internal and external client needs are appropriately addressed. This includes: Having carriage of matters involving asset acquisitions and divestments including drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents that directly affect QIC companies or trusts. Overseeing actual or potential litigation, particularly where these involve a high degree of complexity or risk to QIC or its clients. Responding to ad-hoc (and at times urgent) queries regarding legal and commercial risks. Preparing information memorandums and other disclosure documents and marketing materials. Providing an ad hoc risk-based legal review of marketing materials as required in response to client DDQs and other Q&A formats. Providing or procuring external legal advice to the Global Real Estate investment team in connection with its business activities. Working with the General Counsel – Real Estate to assess the relative merits, costs and capacity constraints involved in either performing legal work internally or briefing out of legal work to external providers so that legal risks are appropriately managed in a timely but cost-effective manner. The ideal candidate As a strong candidate for this role, you must be admitted as a legal practitioner in Queensland with at least 8 years’ PAE. Applications by more experienced practitioners would also be welcomed. Experience in working independently as an in-house lawyer within a financial services firm, working in a high-value and complex real estate transactions, experience advising in relation to funds and trusts will be highly regarded. You must be able to demonstrate: Broad legal knowledge across a wide variety of areas of real estate law. Exceptional commercial problem solving and evaluation skills to enable the identification of issues, analysis of options and the judgement to determine best commercial courses of action to achieve both positive outcomes and satisfy legal requirements. Proven ability to negotiate with internal and external stakeholders. This requires evidence of an ability to hold a deep understanding of a client’s position (and the positions of other stakeholders) and to identify areas where compromise can be mutually acceptable with a goal of achieving appropriate outcomes. Sound understanding of legal and regulatory requirements as they apply to business activities and operations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve strong commercial outcomes. Demonstrated ability to work on complex transactions autonomously as required. A flexible and adaptable approach, happy to work variable hours to meet transaction timetables and international time zone challenges.
