Auckland | Vacancy 35187 The Postharvest Fresh Foods Group conducts research to enable harvested fruits and vegetables to reach their markets with optimal quality and safety. This includes investigation into how produce is affected by biochemical changes in terms of textural quality and taste, as well as developing systems and technologies that ensure product quality and presentation are maintained from orchard to market. This position will see you support postharvest initiatives in New Zealand and Italy by delivering new science and technologies for improving fruit quality, product value and supply chain efficiency. You will contribute to establishing project priorities, tasks and resources for existing projects, and will develop and implement research projects tailored to specific client needs. You will foster strong relationships with internal and external partners with the intention of developing new approaches and methodologies to advance postharvest science. You will have a postharvest qualification in horticultural science together with experience in postharvest physiology (preferably in kiwifruit) and within a commercial kiwifruit packhouse with a wide understanding of the kiwifruit postharvest sector. You'll be experienced in research trial design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of scientific results. Excellent relationship building skills and ability to work with commercial partners to deliver scientific and economic impact will be essential. The ability to communicate in Italian would be a definite plus.
