About Planning Inspectorate

Building on your existing financial skills, you will develop a strong technical understanding of local government finance then use this to support effective and evidence-based decision making across a wide-range of issues. You will draw on both financial and non-financial data to identify risks and inform an understanding of pressures both at the individual local authority and sector-wide level, and provide advice to all levels of the Department, as needed. You will co-ordinate with local authorities where a request is made to the Department for financial support, and work with other departments and stakeholders to find solutions to problems. Using your technical knowledge and experience, you will analyse new accounting standards and financial activity across the sector to identify systemic impacts and help develop the Department’s response. You will occasionally be required to work with other stakeholders to share information, identify risks and collaborate on joint actions. Responsibilities You will be a partially or fully qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with experience in interpreting a wide variety of financial information. You will have strong communication skills, and the ability to explain complex and technical matters to different audiences. You will be able to work quickly and accurately to deadlines and be able to work autonomously and manage your time effectively. You will need to combine your technical skills with wider judgement to make effective decisions. Experience of local government or government finance is desirable, but not essential.
