Project Coordinator Mechanical - Planning and Facilities Department * COMP 20/011 Non-Affiliated Level 5 * * JOB DESCRIPTION Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Construction, with the assistance of a Cost Control Clerk and 1 Project Officer, the Project Coordinator (Mechanical) is responsible for the planning and prioritizing of annual capital renewal projects, the preparation, development and review of sketch plans, budget estimates, working drawings, specifications, tender documents, contract management and the timely completion of various projects as identified in the Board Capital Plan, Facility Renewal and School Condition Improvement Plans, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and various low voltage communication projects, and for supervising, directing and supporting the work of consultants, contractors and in house departments through to the end of the warranty period for construction projects large and small. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In accordance with Board policies and procedures, Ministry guidelines, relevant Building Codes and Acts, regulatory authorities, and industry practices, the Project Coordinator is responsible for development of long term mechanical and electrical capital renewal plans, preparing annual project plans, budget control, design and development of working drawings and construction specifications, directing consultants, tendering, contract administration, project management, and monitoring work in progress, for a range of in-house school facility renewal and major maintenance projects; also responsible for ensuring Ministry reporting compliance, updating building condition and project data in VFA Facilities. The Project Coordinator is responsible for a portfolio of projects including the establishment and administration of capital budgets, contract management and project reporting. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate will have proven interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated leadership in a team environment. Sound knowledge of Building, Electrical and Fire Codes, energy conservation strategies, HVAC controls, ASHRAE standards for Institutional buildings and experience managing multiple projects concurrently. Requires a university degree or 3 year college diploma (CET) in a mechanical engineering field and 7 years of experience. Requires a valid driver’s licence and use of a car. Proficiency with Google docs/sheets, MS Word, Excel, and AutoCAD is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The position requires a valid driver’s licence and use of a car. This is a full time permanent position with an annual salary range of $81,073 - $103,297.
