Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring an Associate Director of Insurance Operations to join our Insurance Operations team in New York City office. Oscar is a technology-driven, consumer-focused health insurance startup founded in 2012 and headquartered in New York City. Our goal is to make health insurance simple, transparent, and human. We need your help to do so. What is the position? The Insurance Operations team powers some of the fastest scaling operations that are required to run an insurance company: running claims, large-scale provider contracting, provider data ingestion and more. As we continue to grow our operations, we're looking for experienced, technical leaders to help lead the effort. When you come in, you will lead a team responsible for building outstanding processes, improving quality for core operational tasks and managing partners across all departments, such as Data, Sales, Product, Engineering, Finance, Legal and Compliance. You will be a steward of the data and automated processes that grow Oscar's business. Through using data and technical solutions, you will make our operations more efficient. You will work across a large portfolio of work, determine strategies to identified issues and empower team members to continue moving the needle for our members and provider partners. The outcomes your team provides will guide Oscar's priorities and shape how Oscar operates. You will report to the Senior Director of Insurance Operations. What you will achieve During your first six weeks: You will... Develop a baseline understanding of the insurance operations ecosystem (including the underlying technology and your partners) and current strengths, weaknesses, and gaps. Embody Oscar's vision of customer-orientation and lean operations. Engage and build relationships with the current members of the team. Initiate connections with the diverse company partners and external partners/vendors During your first five months: You will... Implement/provide leadership on 2-3 essential process improvements that markedly move us towards operational excellence. Build relationships between our team and important partners through partnership and and timely delivery. Solidly grasp tools, metrics, and data that allow you to understand the performance and status of the ecosystem. Have a distinct handle on the structure of the team both operationally and culturally. Introduce tools and systems to support more efficient management and team execution. Winning factors: What leads to success Must-have qualifications and expertise include: A strong technical aptitude and advanced Excel skills and familiarity with database (SQL) and programming (Python) languages. 8+ years of operating experience. Experience developing technically inclined teams and experience with quality and efficiency improvements. Responsible in a technical work product and ability to effectively communicate work to non-technical audiences Systematic/process-oriented thinking (lean operations, project management, etc.).
