Legal Career Opportunities are currently available in the following departments, however not limited to: Investor Office Office of Mergers and Acquisitions The work of each department varies in their collective effort to advance the OSC’s mandate. The work in the Investor Office includes: Participating in or leading significant multi-disciplinary policy and legislative initiatives/projects that impact investors and investor protection. Assessing and advising on how securities law issues or proposals impact investors and investor protection. Participating in other special projects to address challenging regulatory issues, legal issues and other Commission priorities. Regular engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including industry associations, investor groups and OSC advisory committees. The work in the Office of Mergers and Acquisitions includes: Analyzing complex legal and policy issues that arise in the context of mergers and acquisitions while balancing regulatory objectives with practical business considerations. Reviewing information circulars for related party transactions and applications for discretionary relief from the requirements of securities law. Assessing substantive complaints and inquiries concerning M&A transactions. Participating in policy initiatives and other special projects to address challenging regulatory issues, legal issues and other Commission priorities. Participating in Commission hearings involving take-over bids and other M&A transactions. We want to hear from you! As an ideal candidate, you have: a membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, a strong understanding of the securities industry and securities legislation, demonstrated proficiency in balancing regulatory objectives with practical business considerations, demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative recommendations, the ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, excellent research and legal drafting skills and, demonstrated ability to establish collaborative working relationships and engage with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, it is considered an asset if you have the following: For Investor Office opportunities: A good understanding of key areas of investor concern and investor protection Preferably 6 years or more of relevant experience For Office of Mergers and Acquisition opportunities: An interest in mergers and acquisitions policy Ability to conduct academic and case law research, draft legal memoranda on complex transactional and policy matters, and assist in drafting written arguments for regulatory hearings Preferably 3-4 years of relevant experience If these opportunities align with the next step in your legal career, apply online today!
