Manager, Sustaining Engineering Manager The Manager, Sustaining Engineering will work in conjunction with Design Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering teams in the development, implementation, and improvement of manufacturing processes in sophisticated technology and FDA regulated environment while maintaining acceptable product performance and quality as well as cost-efficiency. The Manager, Sustaining Engineering acts as the liaison between the development teams and manufacturing, ensuring that product changes and enhancements are well communicated and understood by manufacturing. This role manages a team of resources that assess product changes and improvements, cost reduction activities, and product enhancements of limited scope. Responsibilities: Direct/supervise the Sustaining Engineering team and ensure this team works cohesively with Quality, Manufacturing, Production, Supply Chain and NPI Program leads Act as the liaison between the IV design group and the manufacturing engineering teams – ensure a smooth transition from design to manufacturing Foster a culture of engineering excellence. Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to engineers. Facilitate professional development to enhance employee growth opportunities and output. Lead initiatives within Operations to ensure accurate project prioritization and follow-up on timelines. Manage the workflow of engineers within the scope of assigned projects to ensure project plans adhere to agreed-upon timelines and budgets. Delegate and manage tasks among team members as appropriate to their skill level and risk to the assignment. Mentor other engineers and participate in cross-functional Lean Six Sigma teams to enhance the quality and efficiencies of manufacturing processes. Develop high-level plans, schedules, resource assignments, and budgets for larger sustaining projects that reduce product cost, improve product quality, and increase production capacity. Manage engineering support to identify and support production outsourcing and materials vendors, including qualifications associated with vendor changes. Oversee the development and maintenance of manufacturing documentation by engineering to include specifications, drawings, procedures, labeling, and packaging. Coordinate engineering responses for Non-Conformances, CAPA, complaints, technical questions, and regulatory reviews. Provide technical support for analysis of field failures and customer returns. Conduct performance reviews and recommend appropriate salary increases of personnel within the department. Research, design, and create specifications to eliminate or reduce top process constraints. Identify opportunities for quality defects to occur in manufacturing processes and suggest mitigations. Contribute to design transfer activities such as process validations. Participate in post-product launch stabilization teams. Responsible for project managing and administration of multiple cost improvement projects. Other responsibilities as assigned. Required Knowledge and Skills: Excellent teamwork skills and motivation to help others Must have excellent oral and written communication skills Comprehends Mechanical & Electrical drawings for Equipment and Facilities Inherent vision for production improvements General computer applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Visio, Tableau Basic Qualifications: B.S. Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Process Engineering or technical degree At least seven years’ experience within medical device electro-mechanical 2 years of supervisory or management responsibility Preferred Qualifications: Six Sigma Green Belt MS Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Prior experience in robotic, high complexity electro-mechanical assembly, and/or medical device manufacturing ISO 13485/FDA regulation experience Demonstrated expertise in automated controls in a production environment ERP knowledge, preferably SAP PLM knowledge, preferably Agile Work Conditions: Located at the Thorn Hill facility, Warrendale, PA Production floor support Minimal travel ( <10%) Extended or irregular work hours as needed Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
