The Supplier Quality Engineer will work to ensure that supplied materials meet Oliver specifications and end-customer requirements. Provide expertise and guidance to both Supplier Quality staff and Suppliers on best engineering practices in sterile barrier materials and other direct materials in order to support new sales growth and customer retention. Support suppliers and internal operations with engineering projects and consulting. Work with Operations and Technical departments to determine technical feasibility of raw materials in new product design to exceed customer expectations. Work with Suppliers to meet Oliver expectations as it pertains to Critical-to-Quality Requirements, Process Controls, and Validation. Primary Responsibilities Provide input in material and supplier selection on Project Teams in order to support new sales growth and customer retention. Travel domestically and globally to support Supplier Management in the field including supplier trial runs, auditing and troubleshooting supplier processes. Travel domestically and globally to support existing and new suppliers through audit closures with development activities. These activities include development of validation procedures and protocols, Control Plans, Traceability and Labeling procedures based on best practices, Test Method Validation protocols, and facilitating Process FMEAs. Assess impact to Oliver’s product portfolio when supplier / raw material changes occur. Attend change committee meetings to provide input based on review of such changes. Act as liaison with suppliers to produce validation procedures for new materials or changes to existing materials. Approve supplier protocols and completion reports. Support the SQA (Supplier Quality Assurance) department with technical assessment of CAPA investigations. Support the Operations department to ensure that feedback is provided to the supplier for coordinating plant validations and any issues or resulting nonconformances that may occur during material verification or validation activities. Communicate to Supplier Quality Team and Procurement and Other departments as deemed necessary on all supplier or material changes and project work. Preferred Qualifications Education and/or Experience: B.S. in Packaging, Engineering, Printing Technology or closely related field or experience. Experience - Level I: 0 – 5 years, Level 2: 4 – 9 years, Level 3: 8+ years Knowledge of sterile and flexible packaging design and performance requirements and test methods. Deep knowledge of flexible packaging manufacturing processes such as blown film, lamination, extrusion, coating, slitting and printing processes. Knowledge of converting and sealing processes would be a plus. Deep knowledge and application of quality management tools and statistical techniques such as PFMEA, DOE, Gauge R&R, Process Capability, and SPC. Knowledge and experience within the Medical Device industry including ISO 13485 and ISO 11607 standards. Strong negotiation skills with deep knowledge of flexible packaging manufacturing processes. Skilled communicator with excellent speaking and technical writing skills. Skilled using statistical and analysis tools such as Excel and Mini-Tab. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and/or governmental regulations Ability to write in a clear and concise manner Ability to speak effectively, present information and respond to questions in a clear and concise manner. Ability to manage employees and resolve conflicts Technical Skills Significant knowledge and history working with and/or creating adhesives Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced statistical theory. Must have a strong knowledge of applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, statistical analysis Other Skills Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to interpret and draw conclusions from nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, data). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables Essential Functions The ability to predictably and regularly attend work and to be punctual. Working Conditions This position operates in a laboratory, manufacturing areas and a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers. This role also uses laboratory equipment.
