PURPOSE AND KEY FOCUS To provide generalist human resource and health and safety support to the Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB). This position works with all OKIB employees to promote a positive work environment and a culture of safe work practices across the organization. JOB SUMMARY To provide generalist human resource and administrative support in the areas of recruitment and selection, orientation, training and development. The Coordinator also provides technical advice to the organization as it relates to employee safety, Health and Safety legislation, reporting requirements, and best practices. This position requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent communication and research skills, and the ability to evaluate the impact of HR and Health and Safety activities/programs. REPORTING STRUCTURE Reports to the Manager of Human Resources Open to either full-time or part-time hours; please indicate your preference on your cover letter JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist Human Resources Manager in the areas of recruitment and selection, health and safety, employee training and development, job description development and performance management Coordinates and facilitates interviews and reference checks Ensures all hiring processes are conducted fairly and in line with OKIB policies Coordinates new hire orientation, trainings and company-wide meetings Answers employee questions about human resources policies and procedures Maintains employee personnel files and records and ensures proper security for files Participates as a member of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee Monitors work site inspections to identify trends and provide appropriate recommendations to Directors to correct unsafe or hazardous conditions Participates in the development of safe work policies and procedures Recommend and facilitate safety training Ensure company adherence to Provincial and Federal Safety legislation Handles highly sensitive and confidential matters relating to the daily activity of the department Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES Prepares Briefing Notes Maintains employee files Review existing policies and procedures Maintains company health and safety files Prepare agendas and record minutes form Occupational Health and Safety meetings Attends Joint Occupational Health and Safety meetings and ensures compliance with required incident reporting Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures Performs other duties as required QUALIFICATIONS Education Diploma or Certificate in Business Administration with a Human Resource specialization Experience in Occupational Health and Safety A combination of education and experience will be considered Experience 2 years direct experience in Human Resources or Occupational Health and Safety Experience writing policies and procedures Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset Experience working with confidential information is asset Competencies (KSAs & Desired Attributes) Strong communication skills orally and written Ability to work with frequent interruptions and with changing priorities Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Ability to exercise sound judgment and diplomacy Self-motivated and engaged DIRECT REPORTS None CLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE Commensurate with qualifications and experience Deadline for Applications: February 25, 2020 Preference may be given to those having knowledge of the Okanagan culture and traditions Job Type: Permanent
