North-South Environmental Inc. (NSE) is an environmental consulting firm located in Cambridge, Ontario. Our goal as environmental consultants is to apply our ecological expertise to the full spectrum of planning and resource management challenges. This includes Environmental and Natural Heritage Planning, Environmental Impact Assessments, Parks and Natural Areas Planning and Management, Natural Heritage Inventory and Assessment, Monitoring and Ecological Restoration. We provide our services to a wide range of government and private sector clients. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and hardworking individual with an interest in Road Ecology and amphibians to perform tasks associated with an amphibian monitoring program in Guelph, ON. This is a six-month contract starting in April or May, with the possibility of extension. The monitoring program includes Visual Encounter Surveys (VES) and Road Mortality Surveys (conducted at night). The surveys involve handling and marking captured amphibians with a Visual Implant Elastomer (VIE). Additionally, this individual will be responsible for monitoring five ACO wildlife tunnels utilizing wildlife trail cameras and analyzing photographs. This role will also include monitoring a Froglogger and analyzing the data. The successful candidate will be required to work a 40-hour week, including; irregular hours (early mornings, nights and/or weekends), in the field alone (including at nights), potentially long hours under variable weather conditions (and mosquitoes), work in and around wetlands safety and comfortably, some statutory holidays. In addition to the amphibian monitoring, the successful candidate will be contributing to the preparation of written reports, proposals and public displays, assisting with a range of ecologicalfieldwork, and supporting other NSE staff. Other position qualifications and character attributes: a valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle, ability to work with volunteers and in a team setting, exhibit accuracy/attention to detail when collecting data, experienced with Microsoft Office Suite, work independently with minimal supervision, an excellent work ethic- dependable and positive! Strong preference will be given to individuals who reside in the Guelph area.
