Country: Canada - Location: Fergus, ON Function: Technical Contract Type: Full Time Permanent Purpose Conduct testing (ed. replaced research), analysis and experimentation on polymer compounds, raw materials, and wire & cable for the purposes of product development, monitoring quality, application analysis, and improvement of methodologies. Areas of responsibility Support the development of new and modifications to existing polymer compounds Monitors the quality of PVC compounds and raw materials Conducts evaluations of new raw materials of all types used in wire and cable Carry out performance tests on both polymer compounds and wire & cable against relevant industry standards in support of product development activities Implements new and improved materials and processes related to insulation and jackets for wire and cable Conducts tests to evaluate the efficiency of processes, and compliance of materials Conduct tests to evaluate the performance and compliance of wire and cable as required by industry standards Troubleshoots problems with processes and polymeric materials and implement changes as required Ensure all health and safety regulations and Nexans safety standards are enforced and complied with and precautions are taken in order to prevent potential hazards Required skills and qualifications College diploma in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Material Science or related technical field is a must Excellent problem solving and analytical skills 5 – 7 years experience with polymer testing and properties, especially XLPE and flexible PVC Experience with polymers used in wire and cable applications is preferred Experience with testing of wire and cable in accordance to industry standards Prior experience working in an analytical lab is preferred Excellent communication and team working skills Previous experience in a unionized environment is preferred Nexans welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities.
