The Role: The Assessment Associate will support the creation of engaging assessments for Newsela’s content, and will help drive the quality and diversity of ways in which educators can track and build upon their students’ learning. In this role, you will contribute to the design of ELA assessments, give feedback to freelance contributors on how to build out exceptional assessments, and conduct research and analysis to ensure our assessments are consistent and aligned to best practices. You will research ELA assessments (best practices, efficacy, and shifting state standards) to contribute to informed decisions about assessment development, in addition to establishing and tracking quality metrics. You’ll have the opportunity to help us fine-tune our content production process as we scale, and your work will ultimately deliver quality, reliable methods of measuring student progress to over 25 million students and 2 million teachers nationwide. Why We’ll Love You: Drawing on your 2+ years in the classroom or in assessment production, you have experience developing, designing, and evaluating assessments that align to national educational standards. You are fluent in (or at least familiar with) national (Common Core) and state-specific standards (e.g., TEKS) for English Language Arts. You are able to make informed decisions that ensure strong instructional resources for teachers and students. You have a proven track record of working with adult learners to coach them on learning targets and execution, and know how to thoughtfully architect data-informed strategies to enhance learning outcomes; you are fiercely committed to thinking about what is best for students and for teachers. You are a clear communicator who can give direct, empathetic feedback, and can share your insights about the complex world of teaching and learning to people of different backgrounds.
