For more information, please see our Benefits page here: https://www.benefits.nu.edu/ The Department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics, in the College of Professional Studies, is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting (based on qualifications) with a deep passion for teaching and excellence in instruction. Position Overview The Assistant or Associate Professor delivers an exceptional student experience through teaching, scholarship and service in support of the overall academic quality of departmental programs. As a champion of student success, this position innovates and collaborates within the University to deliver outstanding course content and academic programs to the diverse student population at National University. This exempt position reports to the Dean as assigned. Under the leadership of the department Chair, this valued faculty will teach undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, participate in curriculum development, advise students, participate in assessments of students and programs, facilitate student learning to achieve course learning outcomes, provide academic leadership to adjunct faculty in specialization and lead continuous quality improvement of curriculum and teaching effectiveness. In addition, the faculty member will develop and maintain a scholarship agenda that is appropriate for the candidates rank and as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and presentations at academic or professional conferences in the faculty member’s field of experience. University service is required at department, school, and University level. This is typically comprised of activities that help develop, innovate and maintain academic programs and fulfill the needs of the communities in which faculty are involved. Contract Duration: The initial appointment is a 30-month contract with the ability for a long-term contract based on requirements in NU’s Faculty Policies. NU provides renewable contracts to faculty intended to encourage performance and faculty retention, with the goal of creating meaningful careers in the pursuit of academic excellence. Qualifications (Required) Education & Experience: A Ph.D., DBA, or a relevant terminal degree. Degree must be from a regionally accredited university. Experience teaching at the college or university level and experience teaching adult learners. Professional certification and practical accounting experience are desirable. Evidence of university service and service to the community/profession. Desired Qualifications All areas of expertise in accounting will be considered, but expertise in tax, advanced financial accounting, government, and internal audit are desirable. Experience designing and developing online, hybrid, or face-to-face courses, including demonstrated success or commitment to delivering relevant educational content which engages students in the learning process in face-to-face, hybrid, and synchronous or asynchronous online courses. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member across the university. Demonstrated leadership skills for continuing program improvement. An emerging or established agenda of scholarship/research. National University values scholarly, pedagogical, and applied research. A multi-area subject matter expertise and an integrative approach to accounting education. Physical Demands/Environment This position requires ability to sit or stand for several hours at a time, visual focus, ability to listen and articulate clearly using speech. This position requires close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing course content, data and figures, and viewing a computer terminal. The work is performed in an office environment. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
