TITLE: Director of Human Resources LOCATION: White Bridge Road Campus REPORTS TO: President RATE OF PAY: $73,272.00 - $91,500.00 annual salary depending on experience JOB PURPOSE: This position is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the College’s human resources and affirmative action functions according to the College, Tennessee Board of Regents, and State and Federal guidelines. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Annually review and make recommendations to senior leadership for improvement of the College’s policies, procedures, and practices on human resource matters. Communicate changes in the College’s personnel policies and procedures and ensures the proper compliance is followed. Assist senior leadership in the annual review, preparation, and administration of the College’s wage and salary program. Support the College and its employees by providing human resource advice, counsel, and decisions; consults with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the President, on personnel related matters. Work directly with department managers and deans to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters. Responsible for the overall management/oversite of the human resources operations: o Employment and recruitment services to including recruitment, selection, hiring and orientation processes. o College personnel budget, classification and compensation plans for administrative/professional, faculty and clerical/support staff. o Compliance and diversity, Affirmative Action Planning. o Employee benefit and leave programs. Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate work activities of direct reports and staff relating to employment, classification, compensation, recruitment/selection (faculty, academic and administrative staff), employee relations, benefits administration, workers compensation, unemployment compensation, professional development and training, performance management, progressive discipline, leave management, employment contracting and contract interpretation, immigration and visa, human resource records management, and human resource information systems. Acts as the institution’s ranking staff person in affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, diversity and equity. Serves as lead coordinator for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VI, and Title IX programs. LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISORY This position supervises the staff of four that oversee benefits, diversity and compliance, recruitment and records in the human resources department. REQUIRED JOB REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, organizational management, communications, or closely related degree from a regionally accredited institution. Seven to 11 years progressive human resources related experience required. Critical thinking skills to identify the underlying principles, motivations, reasons, or facts by breaking down information or data into separate parts. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Demonstrate time management and prioritization skills necessary to complete tasks in a timely manner. Ability to accurately and thoroughly document, record, and maintain confidential information/data. Integrity – job requires appropriate handling of confidential, sensitive information. PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS Master’s degree preferred. SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). Robust compensation background in higher education. Higher education experience. State of Tennessee experience. ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS Typical climate-controlled office environment; no exposure to loud noises, extreme temperature fluctuations, or unnecessary interruptions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Requires sitting for extended periods of time but allows for standing and walking around some of the time. Occasional lifting of objects up to twenty pounds. Requires extended communication via telephone, ongoing use of keyboard and mouse, and focusing on computer screen for extended periods of time.
