Upper School Counselor The Upper School Counselor will serve as a prominent member of the division’s administrative team in order to build and maintain optimal student health and wellness. In addition to providing direct support and interventions for students, they will advise school leaders regarding school-wide practices, work individually with faculty members and families to support student health plans, and design and deliver holistic, proactive wellness and character education programming for students in grades 9-12. Essential Functions Promotes and supports initiatives that further the integration of social and emotional learning in the Upper School. * Serves as the coordinator of the Upper School Student Support Team (SST). * Provides brief, solution-focused, individual counseling. * Works closely with the school psychologist who coordinates strategies, accommodations, and modifications based on neuro-psychological/educational assessments. * Serves as a guide, coach, resource, and facilitator for the professional learning of faculty and staff in the US regarding a holistic understanding of the student experience (particularly social and emotional learning), including the facilitation of professional learning sessions such as faculty meetings. * Works closely with students from underrepresented populations and serves as a facilitator of workshops/meetings centered on diversity, equity, and inclusion. * Executes collaborative risk assessments based on best professional practices. * Serves on the upper school admissions committee, as needed. * Leads small faculty meetings in support of student wellbeing and success. * Develops strong relationships with external health professionals to ensure students are connected with external resources when appropriate. * Professional Competencies Models the Moravian Mission Skills, which are the habits and dispositions of an accomplished learner: creativity, curiosity, empathy, and perseverance. * A firm focus on student-centrism and a commitment to sustained, iterative improvement. * Maintains the highest regard for professional and personal confidentiality. * Demonstrates highly attuned skills of collaboration, advocacy, negotiation, and consensus-building. * Demonstrates a belief in and commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive school community. * Fosters a positive culture by being optimistic, selfless, flexible, and collaborative in all endeavors with the school community. * Joyful. * Qualifications Prospective candidates will have earned a Master’s degree or Doctoral degree in psychology, education, counseling, or a related field, and have a demonstrated record of personal learning. * Five or more years of significant work in school counseling in a setting similar to Moravian Academy (an independent, co-ed, P-12, college preparatory school). * Experience working with upper school students. * Training and experience in a recognized method of culturally responsive facilitation for a diverse community of learners. * About the School Founded in 1742, Moravian Academy is a coeducational prek-grade 12 independent college preparatory school. The Academy, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has an enrollment of approximately 720 students. The school has three divisions: lower school (primer-grade 5), middle school (grades 6-8), and upper school (grades 9-12). Our lower and middle schools are located in historic downtown Bethlehem while the upper school is located on 120 acres in Bethlehem Township, approximately six miles from the downtown campus. Moravian Academy is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools, and the Council for Spiritual and Ethical Education.
