In partnership with the USDA Forest Service Intermountain Region, MobilizeGreen seeks three paid Resource Assistant interns (RA) to support the administration of National Forest public lands. RAs will be placed at Forest Service Supervisor's Offices and will work with staff to manage access and authorizing the use of public lands on a National Forest for a variety of purposes (Special Uses). RAs also will work with various groups such as other federal agencies, local and State government, publicly-owned corporate entities, the general public at-large, and may include members of Congress. This position requires general understanding of commonly applied real estate concepts and applications, but is also an opportunity to grow professionally in the field and receive specialized training and experience in public land administration. Location: Interns placed at the following locations: Reno/Sparks, NV: Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Supervisor's Office Salmon, ID: Salmon-Challis National Forest Supervisor's office Benefits $600/week living allowance (stipend) Hands on learning and job training experience. Site travel stipend and housing/housing stipend eligible. 2-year non-competitive hiring certificate with the Forest Service (must successfully complete position and 960 hours). Health Insurance eligible. Mentorship for career and professional development. Duties & Responsibilities Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to: screening proposals and reviewing applications to use federally owned land/facilities issuing licenses, permits, easements, and/or leases conducting compliance site inspections of these permitted uses billing and collecting land use fees resolving conflicts on encroachment, trespass, or permit noncompliance between permit holders and the agency maintaining special uses records related to these permitted uses Qualifications Preferred degrees: business, real estate, public administration, or similar degree programs General knowledge of real estate terminology, principles, and concepts in order to interpret and understand agency, State, and local government procedures and appropriate statues and laws, in order to authorize the use of federal land by other individuals, businesses or municipalities for routine purposes; Limited knowledge of appraisal principles and practices to informally estimate value of property; Basic knowledge of environmental laws and regulations in order to determine and analyze the potential environmental impacts of a proposed use of federal property and interpret whether the use is both appropriate and consistent with federal law and agency directives before authorizing its use. Physical Demands The work is primarily performed while sitting. But, it may require bending, walking, standing while inspecting residences and office or storage space, or carrying light objects such as floor plans, sales or contract file folders, computer reports, or digests of sales. Work Environment The work is usually performed in an office-like setting. However, there may be occasional exposure to the risks described at the next higher level when the employee makes on-site inspections of properties, particularly undeveloped property or property under construction.
