Essential Duties To teach a 4/4 load consisting of EN 410 Methods and Materials in Secondary English, ED 409 Observation and Directed Teaching, EN 305 Advanced Grammar, and sophomore literature surveys, freshman composition, Basic English or upper-level English courses as needed. Minimum Qualifications M.A. in English or a related field, Ph.D preferred Qualified to obtain Mississippi Teacher Certification (required) Prior Teacher Certification in Mississippi or another state preferred 1-3 years experience teaching at the high school level preferred Demonstrated experience in one or more of the areas of expertise listed below Enthusiasm for mentoring and advising a diverse population of students from underserved communities Job Description Summary Mississippi University for Women invites applications for a position in English / Teacher Education at the Assistant Professor or Instructor level, depending on current rank and experience, beginning mid-August 2020. This position will be tenure-track at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will demonstrate the qualifications and enthusiasm to lead the teacher ed program and teach a broad range of literature and writing courses in the Department of Languages, Literature, and Philosophy with majors in English, Spanish, and Women’s Studies, and minors in Philosophy and Religious Studies. We are an interdisciplinary faculty, and we seek a colleague to help us expand and diversify our programs and course offerings. The department has particular interest in a generalist with areas of expertise including one or more of the following: Teacher Education, Young Adult Literature, and 18th-21st Century American, English or World literatures. Other areas of interest include: African American literature; Latinx, Asian American, Native American or other multicultural literatures; Rhetoric and Composition Studies; Linguistics; Digital Humanities; Southern Studies; or Women’s and Gender Studies. Experience in online teaching is beneficial, and a background in other disciplines served by our department is also welcome.
